Hey guys.

While i don't make knives, I'm fascinated by liner and frame locks.

Im hoping to familiarize myself with their theory, construction, troubleshooting, and repair. Mostly repair. Im familiar with Bob Terzoula's book, but thats about it.

Im MAINLY curious how lockup is revived when a knife is damaged or worn, for the purpose of not having to rely on a warranty. Im aware of stop pin changes, peening, and tension adjustment, but have no clue how to do it properly, or which problems require which solutions.

Can anyone plz explain the above?

Thx.

Yes, but your question is a huge one requiring a couple of days of typing Bob's book doesn't answer everything but most. Is it you know of the book but haven't at least read it a few times? Learn to make a liner lock and then you may have most of the answers.

I was actually looking for resources more than a typed manual as a response.

Plan on checking out Bobs book when i get it.

Thx.

Take one apart, build one nearly identical but a little different. Figuring out how to build it will help your mind figure out most of the issues you have asked about. Most of it is common sense, once you do it.

I often suggest building a kit knife to learn the basics. Knifekits has many styles and good quality - www.knifekits.com

Once that is done, tearing a regular knife down and rebuilding/modifying it will help with your other questions.

Thx stacy, that is my plan.

I wonder if their instructions include troubleshooting. Thats mainly where my interest lies.

Ive been eyeballing knifekits for a long time. Wasnt sure of the quality.
