Are the liners that you buy at knife warehouses, any different then say plastic liners in notebooks?

I also read that it is better to apply liners with CA rather then epoxy??
Would that be on both sides?
Has anyone heard of this method?
Thanks

I use .03 and .06 G10 as liner material. I also use G/flex epoxy by West Systems. I've heard of using CA for liners and I've also heard of people using CA to hold the whole knife handle together but wouldn't do it myself. I've spoken to one particular knifemaker who uses CA glue for his scales and his justification was, "It's not like people are going to seriously use a $300 knife, so why bother with anything tougher?" I just can't do that in good conscience so I use good epoxy on the scales, liners, and tang as well as a good mechanical fastener. Using CA between the scale/liner would make that the weakest link and nearly guaranteed to fail... eventually.

Don't get too down on CA glue for liners. Some brands handle that job very well where some epoxy do not. Frank

Comparing "generic" CA to "generic" epoxy is foolish. There are crap brands/products in both categories... and truly excellent examples in both categories.

In either case, the stuff you find at the hardware store is usually pretty much useless for long-term adhesion, water/chemical resistance and strength. Most of it is simply not designed for our purposes.

Regardless, never, ever rely solely on chemical bonds. Mechanical fasteners like threaded bolts or peened pins are a must for any custom/handmade knife. I would much rather have bolts and no "glue" than "glue" and no bolts.
