Lines in finish

So after I get my blades back from HT, I start polishing them. I start with 220. After 220 on my grinder I notice lines in the blade. They look like water trails if that makes since.(they aren't, that's just what they look like) I am grinding long ways on the blade and the lines I'm referring to are going the opposite way. Could it be from the seem in my belt?(they are not straight lines so I don't think so). I will try and get a pic up if I can. For some reason I can't post attachments. I can email a pic if someone thinks they can help. Thanks.

My posting permissions say I can't post attachments. Not sure why.

With a paying membership you may attach photos directly from your computer.

There's an easy work around. Upload them to a free hosting site (Photobucket, Imgur etc.), copy the IMG link given, and then paste it into your post.

I still use Photobucket. Very simple, especially since I use my phone's camera paired with the Photobucket app.

After my knives came back from Peters HT, I had faint lines running long ways with the blade that would not sand out. It was Aldos 1095 that I sent off, and I so noted that when they were sent???
Don't know what happened.

I am wondering if it's in the steel. I didn't want to sand too much but it didn't seem to want to sand out.

Back it down to 120 and then work up to 220 grit.

It looks like your 220 did not take off the heat treat scale.

So, I went all the way back to 60 and still have these lines. Any idea what they are from and how to get rid of them. I am using fresh belts and a serrated contact wheel.

I have run across this in some 440c several times. The lines run length wise down the blade. Some of the steel was from admiral steel and it was heat treated by Scott Davidson, and the other was from Aldo and I heat treated it myself. The lines showed up in both cases. It doesn't affect the performance or anything, it just looks kind of weird.

I know I'm new to this but I don't feel comfortable selling a knife with a jacked up finish and that's what I would be doing. I also am having problems with a cloudy finish.

You might try a Satin finish on that with a green scotch brite pad or belt

So I think that I'm using too much pressure when grinding the flats. I think those lines are lap marks from the seam on the belt.

Interesting....

So when you lighten up did they go away?
