Linoleum strips as tinder?

Anyone try this? I was disposing of some remnants and saved some pieces for myself. I thought I'd ask first (unlike when I was younger) before I tried lighting one up.

If they light they will probably smoke like crazy...like burning rubber. Don't do it if they are old asbestos type.

I used to install the stuff - and deal with the old linoleum that was yanked up. The smoke is putrid, not to mention the glues that are on the back. The smoke is definitely toxic. I get headaches like you wouldn't believe when someone burns it.

Not a good survival idea, but I guess you never know until you ask, eh?

I wouldn't use that stuff just get yourself some Maya-wood and you have the tinder to start a fire very easy with no chance on a toxic smoke.
A Maya-wood keychain attachement together with a Light-My-Fire Swedisch Large Military Firesteel is a perfect combination to get a fire going anywhere and anytime.

You also don't really know what that flooring is -- - it might be linoleum, but probably is not since actual linoleum hasn't been used much for many years - - -that's the stuff that was made from linseed oil, and it was largely replaced WAY back when by vinyl flooring, which didn't dry up and crack as badly. Actual linoleum probably wouldn't be overly dangerous (when the stuff was used as flooring, people had problems with vermin eating the stuff) except for the glue on the back of it - -that glue also sticks like crazy to anything, so it'd be a real pain to pack the stuff.

The vinyl flooring that replaced linoleum is probably what everyone's thinking about- -that's the toxic stuff.
