been thinking about a sr-1 for a little while now, and i would be interested in testing out the lion spy version. But i also am kinda holding my breath for the zt 0560. i was just curious of other opinions on this one.

-both are larger knives
-good blade steels
-nice ergo's
-both are good looking knives to me, even tho the spydy hole is kinda massive with the broad sr style blade
-i have experience with both lion steel with their dpx folder, and zt with their 0350 and 0300. both companies provide great products.

i do notice though the fit and finish is a little tighter and finer on the zt line. but that could be a result of the needs of the DPX company when lion steel produced their knives. maybe they weren't looking for that super tight fit and finish. but don't get me wrong here the dpx is great folder but there are visible machining lines on the g10 and a few spots on the ti from the tool bit.

Me too, although I've heard nothing but good things about the SR-1. If you're willing to consider another alternative, I'd suggest you take a look at the HTM-DDR Gunhammer Torpedo:

Very sweet knife.

0560/0561 all the way (and I'm a Spyderco Nut / I also love Gianni's knives).

Here's why:

I prefer the Hinderer-design to Gianni's SR knives because I like flippers over thumb-studs. That being said, I like the Spyder-hole as well (I've got plenty of Spydies), but I just don't think it looks right on the LionSpy (seems like they could have notched the scales more and brought the hole into the natural lines of the knife's spine).

The only thing that I like in the LionSpy over the 0560 is the steel lock-bar (adjustable) face-insert.

I'm a tip-up guy, so the LionSpy's tip-up-only option doesn't bother me. The Roto-block is cool, but I would never use it (from what I understand, it does act like Hinderer's stabilizer though when pushing out on the lock-bar with the Roto disengaged). In all honesty, the two knives are pretty evenly matched - you probably couldn't go wrong with either, but I am such a Hinderer fanboy that I have to throw my vote in with the 0560.

Love the looks/ergos/lines/flipper/blade-shape of the 0560 way more than that of the LionSpy.

I don't have an answer for you. I think you will be happy with either so go with the design/style that you like best. The only thing I might suggest is going with the original SR1. It isn't much more than the Spyderco, but it is a one piece ti handle. There are few knives that use a one piece monolithic design, and it is by far the cheapest I know of. I also have been really impressed with the Sleipner steel. There isn't much written about it but it holds an edge really good, better than most of my production knives.

^^^ i like that answer :)

i am preordering the 0561 soon before the price goes up to $320

but the sr-1 has always seemed to call my name. i like the lion spy, but i don't love the 2 piece handle design, i wish they ordered in in solid tie, and i liked how the lion spy has elmaxx also. Sleipner steel seems great but elmaxx has so much more review and research backing it up to support my wallet

That is one thick hunk of Elmax too ;)

I think the 0560/1 is going to be the most popular high end production knife ever. Seriously Kershaw will never be able to fill all the orders. Its basically a production hinderer at half the cost. I am getting antsy waiting for mine

i totally agree. and if they offer maybe a different blade shape, along with dlc coating maybe on some models.

on top of that the scales we can hopefully buy for the g-10 side. this knife can get personalized and unique but still hinderer at half price with ball bearings and elmaxx :) lol

I think the 560/561 is going to get the majority of the vote . I have the 550 and can tell you it is the sweetest framelock I have held in my hands ... I can not wait for the 560/1 !

0560 hands down. I am an avid spyderco collector and very partial to the para 2(i have 12, and that number will increase to 18 by summer). but i also have a non flipper spanto and flipper slicer xm18. the sales on this knife are going to be through the roof!

that being said i am probably going to get both, but only if spyderco comes out with another color of g10 on the Lionspy. I have way too many black knives.
