Ok, so i finally got my hands on a LionSteel SR-1 Folder. I really wanted to get one after seeing that ESEE was using them for the HEST folder.

I paid a little over $400 for it, so to me it puts it in the Chris Reeve, Hinderer, Strider knives i have price range. All i have to say is WOW!!!! LionSteel did a stellar job on that folder. It is the most refined BEAST of a folder I have ever owned. A pleasure to own and use. The D2 they use to me sharpens a bit more like my spyderco CPM D2 and i like it alot. it holds a edge great and lasts. I have only had to use the strop twice in the last week and thats with opening a lot of boxes, envelopes, cutting up food in the kitchen and such. I would love to post more about this great knife and some pics, just so the rest of us can see what quality to expect. I am not trying to promote the SR-1 knife but rather the quality we can come to expect from having a great company like ESEE collaborate with LionSteel an new one to me, but turns out they are awesome so far.:D:thumbup::thumbup:

If i get the green light then i will go more into depth on the knife and post some pics. IF this is not appropriate for the ESEE forum I totally understand.

Sounds great, but where are the pics?

I can't wait to get my hands on the HEST folder.

I'm glad you like it.
but you paid $400 for a knife we are getting for $250? ????
sorry if I mis-understand your post....

didn't the SR-1 win folder of the year at blade or something? and no he wanted to see what type of quality lionsteel was putting out so he bought the SR-1 from them as they will be making the hest folder

Exactly,

It is not the HEST folder, its different folder a bit bigger. Also the whole frame is one big slab of Titanium. Not held together by screws like my hinderer, CRK or Striders...

So what do you guys think is it ok to post some pics????

thanks for the clarification, guys.

I'm sorta "not up to speed" on folders anyway.

Arijer, I hope you get lots of great use out of your knife.
(and thanks for the pics)

Man this thing litterally disappears with this clip, and the HEST looks to have a very similiar clip. I am stoked

Top is the Fantoni Razionale Chris Reeve design, then Hinderer XM 18 3.5 flipper, on the bottom is the SR-1

i like the fact that it is made from a solid block of ti. Kinda like a stamped vs milled ar-15 reciever.

man the rotoblock is huge in comparison to the hinderer lock stop. its threads like this that make the wait for the hest folder worse

I was really, really close to picking one of those up from the very first run, when they were sold at a discount to get the production going.

Really wish I would have.

That sure is a nice folder Arijer! I'd pickone up if I had the fund. How much thicker is the blade compared to the xm18? Could you possibly post some pics up?

I will try to get comparison pics up later today after work:thumbup:

The Hinderer measures right under 4mm thickeness at the middle of the blade. the top is swedge so its thinner on top. That is where i measured it. The SR-1 measures at 5mm at the top of the spine, the thickest portion. so its a little thicker but not much more.

You just had to post this...making it harder to wait for a Hest Folder :P hahahaha, thanks for the pics! Beautiful knife! What striders do you have?

LittleSpartan

I only have one Strider its SMF i believe. Big beast of a folder with very little cutting edge. If there is one complaint I have on Hinderer and Strider knives.... why in God's name do you need to put a choil on a folder??? You loose like almost a inch of cutting blade. Still getting used to the Strider. I have had a bad experience so far with CRK S30V with edge retention. Its a manufacturing work of art but the steel does not hold. I hope the S30V on the Strider will be better

Yeah, the SR-1 is an incredible folder, I love it. One small correction: the blade is not made of D2 but of Sleipner, which I think is a proprietary steel with qualities similar to D2.

This is a cool knife. I was also looking at that one, and I still do!
When I first got on the lionsteel page, "because of the HEST folder", I started looking around and then ordered a neoCZen camp knife. It's made out of Calmax. I really used it camping sevral times. After chopping and batoning trough some huge logs it was still razor sharp. These guys know what they are doing.

Thank you to everyones.
We are very proud to produce knives for Esee company. We will do our best to meet RYP and Jeff requirements.
We are working very hard, we hope to make a good job, like Esee reputation deserve.
