Liong Mah Designs - Warrior One : Built by Reate Knives *Updated with Video

It really looks like the love child of a ZT0808 and a kwaiken. Kind of wish the handle had more going on, like a design or anodized color...

For once I totally agree. And I think its also a stretch to call a complete production knife "midtech" just because the designer is selling it exclusively. That would mean midtech has even less meaning that it did which honestly I wasnt aware was possible. I have seen people attribute it to the quality, the price and the production method and now who is selling it. Either way it seems pretty clear that Reate Prices keep going up as the designs get less involved. I simply dont feel the company has earned its stripes to do so. Especially with 0 support here in the states. Im gonna pass. Congrats on the new knife though.

Handsome knife, but I agree with PURPLEDC on this one.

I'm going to jump on that "overpriced" bandwagon - and, simultaneously, the "it needs another 1/2 inch" bandwagon. I'd love to see a 4" version for around $225, but, honestly, even then, there are better options in the price range.

It's hard for me to think of any folder that isn't overpriced right now, but compounded with the fact that we all heard "reate"? Makes everyone suspect this could be sold at a lower price point. Like someone said, you're paying for liong mah's design/name. If I didn't have so many similar knives I would try this at $300 (yeah I saw the threads). It looks very classy, elegant. Glad to hear other people are tired/bored of makers shying away from 4'' blade lengths too.

Picked up a couple of Reate District 9's late last week to check them out and I couldn't be happier with them so far. Carrying one right now. They flip strong/easily and are made from good materials. (S35VN and Ti with bearing pivot) The price for the 9's at $199 seems about right and better than some well known flipper/framelock prices I've seen from other manufacturers with less quality. Take my opinion with a grain of salt though, I haven't had the one I'm keeping for long. (Keeping the slightly more expensive one with the cooler finish and pocket clip.)

Definitely fits in the realm of what ZT is doing. I really like the clip and blade shape

This is a great looking folder. Does it look familiar?

It should -- it looks exactly like this design would if it were one of the 2015 ZT knives.

I have almost all of the new ZTs and I honestly cannot tell the difference between them and this Reate.

They are all great knives.

Well, there is one difference: the ZT's are about half the price I paid for the Liong Mah.

It is a nice looking knife. I think at 300.00 you did well and I would pick one up if I could find one priced at that.

Just uploaded video overview for those interested...will also add to original post:

Rival,

Can you do a side-by-side picture with ZT 0808? What are your thoughts when comparing Warrior One with ZT 0808?

They look to be about the same size, S35VN, titanium frame lock and bearings flipper.

Thanks.

I'm reviving this thread because I happen to be alternating between a Warrior 1 and a ZT 0808 as my EDCs right. They are very similar in many ways - similarly sized ti framelocks with steel lock bar inserts 3"+ blades but not huge. I like them both very much. My 0808 is anodized blue handles so looks a little friendlier. Flips like a dream - very mechanical thunk into lockup. The Warrior 1 is a trickier flipper for me but I have figured out its sweet spot and it feels great. I will likely send it out to Rival 1314 to anodize the handles but it's now a keeper. Whether it was worth 1.5x the ZT is debatable but it works for me. Feels great in the hand... If Reate does a new knife in the 3" range I'm in. Though a 0450 is calling my name right now.

I wouldn't say it bodes well for a knife in that price range to be a "tricky" flipper. Doesn't it have double-row ceramic bearings?

Tricky for me initially, but no longer. Knife was virtually brad new when i got it and maybe just needed some break in too. I'm new to the flipper world and only have three: 0808, Warrior 1, and a Defiant7 Kumu. They all flip differently. Detents are different on each. The Kumu is ultra smooth, the 0808 strong but fast once detent is overcome, and the Mah is the fastest, just needed to experience where the detent is overcome. ZTs are similar.

The fit and finish are great on the Mah. And Liong will respond personally to emails very quickly with questions
