ALAPAHA, Ga. -- Chris Griffin, 31, poses beside the half-ton wild hog he shot on Thursday, June 17, 2004. No one keeps official records on hog kills, but Georgia game officials say it is the largest they have ever heard of. (07/29/04 AP Photo/River Oak Plantation)

What khukuri would you use to stop a 1,000 lb hog? ....and, would you invite me to the pork roast?

Sort of reminds me of the photos in the Cold Steel catalogs of people who have killed boars with spears. As for which khukuri to use for boar, it may not take as big a model as you may think. A 16.5" WWII model was used to kill a 10' alligator. Also the khukuri the farmer used to kill the Himalayan black bear probably wasn't too heavy. I'd guess something like an 18" AK minimum. Of course the trick would be killing the boar before it mauls you first.

Edited to add: Sure I'd invite you. You don't expect me to eat all that hog by myself, do you? ;)

Dunno about thousand pound hawgs but people hunt boars with dogs and knives. And it doesn't take a huge one, just a 6" blade with good penetration.
As for a khuk, I'd use the M43 or UBE. Of the ones I own, they are the best balance between weapon and chopper, and you'd want some chopping power. I think any khuk in the 16.5"+ range would be sufficient, with a proper edge on it. I have a Malla, a 25" Chainpuri, and a 21" Gelbu that would all be great, but that heart-shaped cho always makes me nervous about breakage. Trees don't have tusks!! :D

A YCS of course! You'd need those beautiful double Kardas for chopping it into barbeque after the kill!

That thing's bigger than a damn rhino.
Man.
At 3$ a pound for bacon, he's got at least a couple grand if he wants to sell it.

Are livestock prices that high in Japan? That harkens back to the good-old-days here...

ETA: I just checked the Chicago Mercantile, and lean hogs are selling for $.74/lb right now...that doesn't bode well for anyone bringing in a 1,000lb hog...

Did I ever tell you guys about the last time I went fishing.....:D

interesting information from Snopes.

he says that they shot it 'cause they didn't want someone else to shoot it? they just killed it and then buried it? 'cause it wouldn't have tasted good? and the head was too big to mount on the wall?

the biologist they spoke to said the largest on record was 695 pounds. "Hogzilla" would beat that record by over 300 pounds, if the hunters' claims are correct. tho it is stated that farm-raised hogs can grow to 7 feet in length and 1300 pounds.

what really seems odd to me, are the man and the hog's shadows. they just don't look right.

What khuk would i use on this pig? Probably a 12" AK, but then i'd photoshop it look like a 4' Tarwar:D
The more i look at this pic, the more it looks like the hog would be closer to 7-9 feet. Not 12 by any means. Also, their story of why they shot the hog and buried it doesn't quite add up. Why would you shoot something if you weren't going to eat it or mount its head or kill it because it posed a direct threat to crops/livestock/family? He shot it because some one else was just going to shoot it if he didn't? sounds like a trophy hunter to me, but then he buries the thing?? I'm not a hunter, but if i bagged an animal that broke the record by over 300lbs (or a 1000lb anything for that matter), then i'd have that thing fully stuffed and charge a nickle a person to look at it. At the very least i'd SELL the body to someone. It just doesn't feel right to me.

I largest hog that I have seen myself in Ga was just a hair over 350lbs and it was scary big, so I know they get at least that big here. I grew up in the sticks in south Georgia and heard tails of 500lb pigs (big grain of salt on those). From what people tell me once wild pigs start to get that big they tend to taste bad. A wild pig that large would be a danger to anyone that came into contact with it, since smaller (large but small compared to that beast) ones are ;) .

This guy was photographed at the Hillborough North Carolina county fair (June 15, 2002) He is said to stand 4 feet at the shoulder and weighs 1,100 lbs.
