Lionspy or Tuff?

I foolishly ordered one of the new Black Szabos. Foolish because I will absolutely never use this knife for it's singular purpose, nor am I skilled enough to.

With that pretty much decided, I'm most likely going to exchange it for either a Lionspy or a Tuff, both of which are around $50 more.

I'm thinking the Lionspy is the better deal but cost aside, which do you guys prefer?

all up to preference. they are both fairly large knives. Personally I would get a refund on the szabo and wait for the CPM-Cruwear military coming out.

I was think about that. But most places have already closed their pre-orders and I always seem to miss out on the Sprints for some reason.

Also, the place I purchased it from has a somewhat crappy Return policy, "All returns are subject to a 15% restocking fee. If free shipping was used your order is also subject to a $10.00 deduction before refund."

Both are great knives yet completely different animals. I say both ;)

Ha. I wish!

I'm leaning towards the Lionspy. Although, I'm pretty sure I'll eventually end up with both.

Oh, and by the way ShepardCC, have you even thought about making a custom scale for a Lionspy?

Where do you order from? Those are bad policies towards the customer.

I don't think that is, assuming it only applies to items that weren't defective in some way. When I purchased a Sage 2 for my dad and it ended up being too big for his liking, I had to do the same with Amazon.

As for which knife, I like the Lionspy but I've heard of issues with its F&F. 3V in a folder makes little sense to me, but I could be wrong.

I really like my Tuff it gets carried a lot and the 3V blade steel holds an edge well. I got to look at a Lionspy at my local knife shop and I think the Lionsteel SR2 is a better value and a better looking knife and you get Sleipner Blade steel instead of Elmax.

You can try to sell it on the exchange and minimize your loss.

Amazon lets you return most stuff for any reason at all with no fees. You have to buy directly from Amazon not a 3rd party seller.

Well, if the problem is on your end you have to pay shipping back to Amazon, but they let you pay at their rates which are really low. The closest thing to a hassle free online experience I've ever had!
But yes, if you have any questions about the merchandise, buy from Amazon or at least Fulfilled by Amazon. I've had easy returns either way.

The Tuff is pretty awesome. I haven't handled the other two. I recently got my Tuff and it's not nearly as stiff as I expected based on reviews. Mine flicks out easily.
If you like the look of the Szabo I'd say give it a chance. Who cares that it's designed to be a fighting knife? You can use it for anything a knife is used for.

I have thought about it ;). Have one but I think ill leave it alone.

Oh and on the tuff. They are all slightly different so if you want one pimped it has to be sent in ;)

The Lionspy was almost a grail to me for a while. I absolutely love the design and aesthetics. However, I was able to handle it at Smokey Mountain Knife Works in TN, and I was less than impressed. I can't really nail down everything that I didn't like about it, but I just didn't feel that it was a $250+ knife (SMKW had it priced at $269, I think.). Not to mention all of the negative stuff I've heard/read about Elmax. After handling this knife, my interest moved the Lion Steel SR-1. It's a little cheaper, for a very similar knife. So, I say go with the Tuff, even though I've never handled one. Or, if you want to save a little, get a Millie.

I prefer by far the LionSpy, the handle, the blade shape, the rotoblock, the design....

If we are throwing the Sr1 into the mix that would get my vote as well. As for the Elmax, I believe that was specific to another company and their heat treatment method. I personally put more faith into what Spydrco can do with it... but that's just my .02.
