Lionsteel SR-1/Spyderco collaboration

Well, now that I HAVE an SR-1 in hand...

I could see a duplicate wherein the thumbstud has been relaced by a "Spydie" round hole.

It'll look a bit awkward, but should work well.

They will have to add a hump to the already wide blade. If you put your finger on the blade on the visible area when closed and rotate the blade out it hits the handle. Something will have to change over the current design. I still don't see Spyderco producing the monolithic design with the rotoblock. Plus if they made an exact copy people would buy the Spyderco and not the Lionsteel which doesn't seem like a very good business decision for Lionsteel. I will be curious to see what they come up with.

I like the looks of the SR-1 but I also end up selling a lot of knives AFTER I get my hands on them and the opportunity to feel the knife in hand. After all this time as a knife nut and all the knives that have come and gone, I still can't pick a knife by looks and pictures that I end up gravitating to for frequent EDC. That special someting each knife I carry a lot has, is something I still can't always put my finger on. It's intangible sometimes. I'd be curious to see what the Spyderco rendition is supposed to look like though. I still have to buy all my knives by looks first since there isn't a great selection of knives at the B&M shops here in Reno. I see a slight Dozier type appeal in the blade geometry that I like . . .

Hi Nevermind,

Funny how a one liner" in a British forum can grow

Gianni and Iwere discussing his SR-1 design in March at the IWA show in Germany. Gianni was one of the designers of the "Volpe" design. (G&G is Gianni and Gabrielle)

We decided that we would create a Spyderized version of his integral titan design, which meant adding a round hole opener and some minor ergo mods to fit the changes created by a hole opener instead of a stud.

Then we would make a concept model and show it at some shows to see if there was enough interest from our customers in such a model what would warrant a run.

Gianni would make the knife in Maniago. We would use N690Co along with some features that he's using. His "stop" is a nice addition. His steel tip to the lock interface, while something that we've discussed, we've not done.

Gianni (Lionsteel) is a quality maker in Maniago, along with Fox, have very high quality standards and are good to work with.

Then we study reaction.

Hope that helps.
