List of Hard Use Folders

Disengaging the lock entirely will also take the stress off the pivot.

Ya I would never want to baton with any folder but if I had to I would do it with the lock disengaged. Not because I think the lock would fail, but because the locking surfaces would become deformed and the knife would probably get a ton of blade play.

I have done things with my SnG that I haven't with other folders. Not abuse, but very hard work. Notching out several weather treated 2x8s when building a deck, hard use on the tip, planing & light chopping. Not that my others can't do it, but the Strider just feels so sturdy and regardless what people think of the big choil, it makes the SnG one heck of a detail worker also. Not a sushi slicer but no slouch with 20 degree FFG.

I know this thread is old, and it may have already been said but: Cold Steel Large (or Extra Large) Voyager. For under $50 you don't have to worry too much about it breaking, but you shouldn't worry anyway. It has a thick spine with a hollow grind for good slicing yet a good amount of steel behind it, liners set in frn type scales, is super ergonomic and easy to carry, and best of all has the amazing triad lock. I also think aus8 is a great steel for hard use. If the voyager won't do what you're asking of it then you need an axe/hammer/crow bar/etc.
