List of HI models?

I've been poking around in the old threads and posts (particularly the old deals of the day, since they have pictures) and I've noticed that there seem to be a whole lot of models not listed on the HI website, such as the trisul, Jange, Katunje Yangdu Special, Bura's Special, Patchar, etc.

Just wondering if anyone had a complete list with pictures of the HI models...

Norm might be able to rattle off most the numbers off the top of his head.

Being new to the H.I forums, I get confused with acronyms too. I'm still trying to figure out what a BDC is ! (and I was this close-to buying it)

Since the arrival of my first khuk, i have been scanning the HI threads, and a short list of abbrevations would be helpfull for the newbies like me:o

YCS - Yvsa Cherokee Special
BDC - B? Dui Chirra
BAS - British Army Service
FF - Foxy Folly
AK - Ang Khola
CAK - Chiruwa (full width tang) Ang Khola
PK - Pen Knife
chit - Chitlangi

IIRC - if I recall correctly

Those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head, of course I'm even newer around here than you ;)

feel free to correct me, anyone.

BDC= Bura Dui Chirra

Its listed on the special runs page of the HI website as "Bura's new model."

I've been having trouble with the abbreviations too, but I'm realizing that there are so many models and variations that a list like that would be exhausting to make. And likely never complete.

I think you're right, but I think I've seen it described before here as baby dui chirra...

BGRS - Baby Ganga Ram Special (But a while back I think I saw a villager or two with the Bura handle (M43 without an end cap, or else I couldn't see the end cap), so can we call those Bura Ganga Ram Specials or are they BBGRS?) :)

GRS - Ganga Ram Special

WWII - World War II Model

GS - Gelbu Special

M43 - God's Gift to Mankind, especially at 20"

BDC

Bura's New Model
Baby Dui Chirra
Bura Daily Carry
Bura Dui Chirra

Munk gives me too much credit. I only have the original sale prices (in some cases an approximation), but do have all the models listed that I have bought in the last two years. These are all HI models of course. I spent some time removing the dupes, as I have each model listed by size and handle type, cost, maker, scabbard, etc. This does not list the different sizes of each model, so for example the 10 and 14" BDC's are just one entry. (But that begs the question: why are the BGRS and GRS broken out into different models, as is the Chitlangi and Baby Chitlangi, but not the BDC's? The 10" should rightfully be a BBDC I guess. ;) But that's how HI listed them for sale so that's what I followed.)

Excel shows this ending on line 84, so counting the ones missing and their variables HI probably offers close to 100 different models! I am missing several models that are not listed here: The Bob White bolo, the Dukti sword, an Uddha sword and a Falcata. All big ones. (To quote GHW Bush, "This will not stand!" :D )

wow, that's quite a few. I don't suppose I could convince you to post pics of some of the rarer ones? :)

My picture taking skills are "in growth" as they say, but I will try from time to time. There are many more rare ones that others have above and beyond this list, esp. the folks that have been here awhile.

But I will try and post a couple interesting ones anyway WIGAC.

Thanks,

Norm

Norm - You didn't say what sizes you have in each model.
The total number must be vast.

Arrghhh.

"Engraved Tiger Ang Khola"

Obviously, I must have one of these.

Truly, the zen lesson in collecting HI knives is that the journey alone matters.

The destination (of having one of each) is unreachable.

I am grateful/frustrated.

Tell me about it! :D

The beauty of these knives is that everyone can have something totally unique. There are one of a kind specials out there that seem to find their way to certain people. I doubt if there is a single forumite who does not have at least one model of knife that has come and gone just to him and not been seen again, or if so in a different variation.

Off hand I remember George in Greece showing up and getting that fantastic grey horn chiruwa villager BGRS w/ std. bolster (and then he vanished!); a gorgeous chandan carved handle KK snagged by a guy in Indonesia or thereabouts, and he was never to be seen again either; or Dean getting that incredible neem sher special hanshee, the first of it's kind; Dave getting his special bolo and Sweet snagging that one of a kind hill walnut M43 by Bura, when all the others are by Kumar (that one had something special about it.)

The one I really groaned about missing was a very special 19" Bura Samsher with walnut wood handle and a spectacular standard bolster (for $85!). Wayne (Wlivermore) snagged that one on 7/24 and has dropped back out of sight as well.

(Edit; Oops! Almost forgot two of my favorite "misses": Dave Hahn's double score of a rare horn handled Junge and a one of a kind Osage Orange Junge to boot.)

Can't get them all that's for sure, and it wouldn't be any fun if you did. Picking and choosing and having them come to you, and even missing some you would have really wanted is part of the attraction. But hopefully the Kamis will keep them coming for a long time to come...
