List your knives that cover a specific need or "base" for you. Not everyone will share all the same "bases", so the categories are going to be different from person to person. Doesn't matter how many "bases" you want to include - you need what you need.

This isn't a "list your knives" thread. Only list one knife that covers a specific base for you that best fills that particular need. Most of us knife nuts will have multiple to fulfill any given need, but let's see your #1 knive in that category.

So list your "bases-covered" knives here. If you can, come back and add a pic or two.

Here are mine:

  • Keychain - SS SAK
  • Deep Pocket Carry - Wenger SAK
  • Small EDC - CRK Small Sebenza 21
  • Large EDC - CRK Umnumzaan
  • Hard Use Folder - Strider SNG
  • Whittling/Wood-Carving Knife - BHK Bushbaby (O1)
  • Survival Knife - Fallkniven F1 (Custom)
  • Hiking/Backpacking Knife - Ray Laconico Explorer (1095)
  • Camp Knife - Ray Laconico Camp (O1)
  • Chopper - Gossman Big Boar Tusker

That is an insane collection. Congrats on having just about the best knife available in every category

Ok mine's not nearly as comprehensive, but I just started buying for a specific need, and selling duplicates. I'm not done yet, so I'll only list the ones I have locked in to a specific job.

Super discreet, nearly always legal edc - Case yellow peanut in cv.

Smallish, tough general utility folder - Benchmade 527

Outdoors/hiking/camping folder - Buck 110

Large general purpose/survival fixed blade - Buck 119

Compromise between capability and legality/friendliness - Sak Pioneer/Farmer

Keychain - Sak classic and Gerber shard

The only category I still need is "gentleman's tactical" - thinking a frankenleek, ram, speedform 2, crkt summa, or something else, but that's neither here nor there.

I think its really interesting to see the bases you cover compared to mine. Its just cool to see how different knife knuts feed their addiction.

Anyone else besides me, never like to use the paracord through the knife lanyard holes?

My dustar dimona came with the paracord and I took it
Off as soon as I grabbed the knife out of the box.

•Keychain - SS SAK
•Deep Pocket Carry - Queen Mountain Man
•Small EDC - CRK Small Sebenza 21 leather inlay
•Large EDC - ZT302
•Hard Use Folder - Cold Steel Spartan
•Whittling/Wood-Carving Knife - Bob Dozier Whittler
•Survival Knife - Jay Nielson custom or Busse SAR
•Hiking/Backpacking Knife - Jerry Hossom custom
•Camp Knife - Busse ASH thin
•Chopper - right now Condor Golok and Parang

I have multiples that interchange on this list. Just posted the ones that see a good amount of use.Generally my large EDC's are also hard use like the ZT302 is both to me, but right now I have a Spyderco GB in my pocket. My camp knives depend on which ones are in which bag I decide to take half the time.

  • Pouch Multitool EDC/Travel- Swisschamp
  • Work Knife/Pocket EDC- Rajah 2
  • Rescue/Survival/Dayhike- Esee 5
  • Dayhike Slicer- Eskabar
  • Chopper/Long Hike/Survival- CS Gurkha Kukri
  • Camping Slicer/Carver- Mora Bushcraft Force
  • House/Survival Multitool- Leatherman Surge
  • Diving Knife- CRKT ABC Operators

I also have a CS Magnum Kukri Machete which I don't like and don't use.

I may not be as "high-end" as some of the others here, and I'm a Gerber fanboy (gasp!), but I'm going to contribute anyway because if I don't look busy my wife will try to make me do something.

Note: there are 2 knives for some of these categories because I have one primary for work and one for off-work.

EDC/common use knife: Gerber FAST Draw or Mini FAST Draw
Multi-tool: Leatherman Skeletool or Victorinox SwissChamp
Hard use folder, backup self defense: Rajah II
Self defense (when I can't carry a pistol): Gerber Covert FAST
Fine work knife/blade to use when the job will destroy it: Gerber folding utility knife/razor (not sure what it is called)
Backpacking/Survival: Gerber LMF II
Camp knife: SOG Jungle Primitive
Machete: SOGfari
Bayonet(s): Rothco M9
Boating/Rafting: Gerber RiverMate II
Household chore knife (like opening my beer and whittling while I drink it): Gerber Epic
Fighting knife (guess how often I use this!): Gerber Mk II

Multi-tool: Leatherman Wave
Small EDC: Kershaw Needs Work
Large EDC: Spyderco Left Hand Military
Don't wanna ruin my good knife: Wave or S&W CK6T Spec Ops
Camp Knife: Mora Army Clipper SS
Chopper: Kabar Large Heavy Bowie

I'm sure I'll get more to fill needs I haven't thought of yet. I've been really wanting a Harpy or Tasman Salt lately.

Interesting choices listed so far. Rajah 2 for a pocket EDC?? It's interesting to see the differences in tastes / needs for various knifes. It's also surprising to see so many similarities.

Op. The time has come to get a busse. Check out the muk.

Actually, I have a Boss Jack Proto. I had to get double-liners installed to make it feel secure in my hand due to the thin-ish handle. I also had a SAR-3, BATAC LE, and a satin FSH which have all been sold. Ergos are a big deal for me, and the BUSSE knives tend to not fit my hand very well. I'm sure the steel is great, but I also put a lot of importance on how the knife feels in my hand.

Keychain - SAK classic
Pocket Carry - Wenger Evo S10
Personal Survival Kit Pouch - BK13 and SRM 710
Backpack - Mora SS Clipper
Survival/camp/woodsman/hard use - BK2

You may be surprised I have seen people rocking a espada xl on youtube for edc.
