List Your Top Three Movies

Midway
Field of Dreams
all of the Pink Panther movies, except for the last one
Murder By Death

Only three movies? Tough question. I choose The Seven Samurai because it’s a great classic and still entertaining. The Ice Storm because of the wonderful script and direction and The Player because it still fascinates me and is strangely compelling. It’s also very funny.

Some other movie titles that popped in my head when I read the word favorite: The weird but wonderful Donnie Darko, the ‘if you haven’t seen this movie, you haven’t lived’ Jaws, the compelling Fearless, Heavenly Creatures and The Thin Red Line (my favorite war film), Memento and The Usual Suspects (the perfect suspense movie).

Top three:

The Seven Samurai (Akira Kurasawa)
The Ice Storm (Ang Lee)
The Player (Robert Altman)

Man... Am I the only one who appreciated, Amadeus, Shine, and Sling Blade?

I liked Amadeus, just didn't make my top 3

and you're the only one to list Amadeus and Slingblade.
But no one's listed Shine in their top three yet...

Thanks for your lists guys, interesting layout of movies.

Excalibur
The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly
Shaolin Martial Arts

I know the last one is probably unknown to people here, but I love it. It is an old-school (1974) period kung fu movie directed by Chang Cheh and released by the Shaw Brothers studio...IMO perhaps the best made of such films. I think Tarantino copied some scenes from it for Kill Bill 2.

I've gone back and forth on #3 on my list, and have decided to replace it with Disciples of Shaolin (1975), by the same director, Chang Cheh, and also starring the late Alexander Fu Sheng. Whereas Shaolin Martial Arts is fully concentrated on training scenes and revenge, Disciples is more concerned with the development of its characters, and is a very high-quality movie. The martial arts in both films are not flashy at all, and both are a part of director Chang's "Shaolin cycle" series of films, often based on true historical characters. Neither of these films are currently available in region 1 or region-free DVD at this time, but probably will be at some point; they have already been remastered by Celestial Pictures.

Excalibur (1981) always remains my all-time favorite movie.

I really should see Amadeus again. I like the movie even if it's not in my top three.

Secondhand Lions
The Magnificent Seven
The Cowboys

As an aside I'm pretty sure I've got a copy of "the Shaloin Martial Arts" and a few others. If anyone wants it I'd give it to them for postage.
