• Happy Thanksgiving to all of you! I hope that you all have something to be grateful for this year and for many years to come
  • America has reached 250 years, and I am grateful to be here, in the best country in the world. Thank every one of you who helps make this country a better place, those who have gone before and risked it all, and those who've paid the ultimate price to make the United States what we are today.

Happy Birthday America! Let Freedom Ring for all time!

This thing was supposed to be my Christmas gift, but the time was not on my side.
It`s not finish yet, but, after so many GB (), let see a romanian style little hatchet.
It`s called ~barda~, and it`s used by the carpenters.
My version is for bushcraft, a good counterpart to GB Wildlife Hatchet, light, small, versatile and useful for any kind of activity in nature.

I will post more pictures when I`ll finish it.

Almost forgot, Happy New Year to you all!!!!!

Beautiful bearded axe and I love the HB knife too.
Merry Christmas, nice gift.

Looks really nice.

What kind of steel and temper did you use?

I'm assuming it's either a spring temper or a differential to keep the beard from breaking off?

Looks like it has enough curve in the blade to be a decent skinner too. Nice!

Thank you again!:)

The little axe is made from two diferent pieces electrical welded (the haft hole from an old axe and a piece of spring steel).
The treatment is not ready, I will make a differentiated one - the cutting edge (around 1/2 - 2/3 of an inch) will be hardened like spring steel (heated to 1598 * Fahrenheit) and the rest will be softer (cooled from around 1200* Fahrenheit) to prevent cracks and to protect the welding.
After that I will normalize the axe at 482* Fahrenheit for half hour (250* Celsius).
The haft is made of beech wood (often used in Eastern Europe and Romania for tools) and it`s 12 inch long.
Of course, a leather sheath will complete the project!:)

I thought it looked like it was welded together. I have thought about making me an adze by welding a piece of car spring cross ways for the cutting edge.
thanks for sharing.

Now we await the test out and review.

Great looking hatchet!

I would be proud to own that one!

I have only seen Romania from the Bulgarian side of the Danube when I lived in Bulgaria.
Good to see you on here.

Thank you, I`m glad to here about the fact that here are a lot of people from Estern Europe!
Happy new year!

Now is better!
I made the heat treatement, sharpen it and I treated the haft with linseed oil.
Next is the sheath!
Enjoy!;)

I need to find/make myself one of these. The design lends itself to carving wonderfully. Even the so called "carving" axes/hatchets don't do as good of a job as a "bearded" hatchet in my opinion.

Yes, it do, ”like a scalpel in a surgeon's hand”! ;)
I will draw a sketch how to make one easy and cheap;)!
