Little Big Knives

I had a dragonfly in ZDP-189. Great little guy. Got lost in one of my moves.

My new Para 3 Spy27 lightweight is amazing.

My Brian Tighe and friends Twist Tighe OTF is a little guy that can handle most of my tasks.

All three are great for summer carry in lightweight shorts.

Dragon fly cuts above its weight.

First and foremost, Spyderco’s Reinhold Rhino. I started carrying it alongside something full size, and then realized it was all I needed, most of the time.

The blade is only 2.37”, but due to it’s profile it has a lot of cutting edge. I think it’s under appreciated, in part because a YouTuber gave it a “meh” review without really having carried or used it.

Honorable mention goes to the small Inkosi. It’s 2.75” and feels like it’ll tackle anything.

The 0900 is out of production but almost identical to the sm Inkosi in length. It’s a bruiser! Maybe not a slicer, but if you want to put some horsepower into something, it’ll take it (and put a smile on your face).

I like my Spyderco Dragonflies but prefer my Kopa even though it has thicker blade stock.

I’ll also throw the Benchmade Shoki in the ring and (wearing my flame resistant overall) the Strider PT.

I vaguely remember a thread here with a video of a guy cutting down an entire (smallish) tree with just a slipjoint. If you've got the skills, small blades can be really awesome!

It's not how big it is, it's how you use it, baby! (Well, at least that's true for knives).

That would have been Vinnie of Vinnie's Day Off over on you tube using a vintage/antique pen knife to build a shelter. If I remember right, that shelter had a thatch roof. (yes, he used the same knife to cut the grass/thatch) :)
He's made videos using other slipjoints, a Opinel friction folder (I forget if he had a Opinel number 8 or 9), and a Buck 110 to build shelters (and make a bow an some arrows).
He used two of the Buck 110's in different episodes. The first had the standard 420HC blade, the second a S30V blade.

EDIT: The smallest knife I carry semi-regularly is this 3 1/4 inch closed two blade Ulster number 10 Barlow, from the 1960's or possibly the 1950's.

I know the Dragonfly gets a lot of love, but I think that either the Squeak or Urban is a better choice. The handles are much more ergonomic to me and both models had some intersting versions with great steel like Elmax or K390. I kept buying Dragonflies and trying to enjoy them but I dislike the handle shape in hand.

Spyderco PM2 is the smallest knife I'm willing to carry so that's what I consider a small knife. I've tried carrying smaller knives such as Dragonfly, Delica, Leek, but they are too hard for me to handle and to hold onto.

Another vote for the Dragonfly II, in any of the myriad handle materials, blade steels & configurations that suit you best.

The Techno gets my vote, premium materials, and built like a tank. I edc’d mine for 5+years everyday and evening. Never failed me, lockup is as solid now as the day I got it.
