Little doubt on Manix 2

Hey! First awf, I would like to introduce myself. I am mexican and I really love knives. This may sound strange but I am a 13 year old guy. I've been always in contact with weapons and well educated in that topic. I always stay respectful with knives and guns. I was only a reader but since now I think I would start posting. I manage fairly well English even though im mexican jaja.

Im trying to expand my little collection of 7 or 8 knives. So I've picked up some knives at amazon but I got a question:

There is this manix 2 that I love but that is a little pricey for my range since Im a kid and I work for money. And there is the tenacious which I like but hate the idea that it's a 8cr13mov (i have a cryo and dont really like it) I use them when I go to the range or fishing where there are normally some spare wood that I can play around with. So some chopping and some edc tasks.

So, I could get some knives out from my list a byrd and a cheap kershaw and go for the manix, but are the handles well constructed or should I go for the tenacious?

Hope that didn't bored you.
And your answers are always welcome.
Bye!

The Manix 2 is a great knife, and well worth it. The handles are very sturdy and well-constructed. Good luck!

Spyderco does a very good and especially consistent heat treat on all their knives, and I know Sal is VERY picky when it comes to manufacturers of their products overseas, China included. I have a Tenacious and I very much love the knife as a beater knife, though I preferred my Manix2 LW in CTS-BD1 (Sold it when I bought my Manix2 in CPM-CruWear). The Manix LW is a better knife than the Tenacious for sure if you can afford it, and the proper Manix is even better in my opinion, but the Tenacious is a damn good knife for the money (I personally think the satin finish ParaMilitary2 in S30V is the absolute best knife for the money in the market today if you can afford/find one, but ~$40 USD for a Tenacious is hard to beat).

Good luck with your search (And your English is quite good so don't be concerned, you got your point across very clearly), and know that no matter what you choose you won't have made a bad choice. One thing I'd personally recommend looking into is a Spyderco SharpMaker sharpening system (A Tenacious + SharpMaker is absolutely a better investment than just a Manix2 for about the same cost in my opinion). If you have further questions I'm sure many of us would be more than happy to toss an answer your way.

I've got a Lansky sharpening system that gives my cryo a hair popping edge! , so I think that's okay for awhile. You're very kind! Thanks a lot. I would prefered that the cheapest Manix on amazon was the G10. Because i think it's tougher. But, that scales should work fine, so I would share my resluts when I'm done with the money saving for my collection expansion.

Regards,
David

Don't be afraid of the lightweight models...the G10 versions are definitely a little more solid, but they cost more, and both are great knives.

I have a Manix 2 LW in translucent blue and absolutely love it. The Tenacious is also a great knife for the money. 8Cr13MoV is not the greatest steel, but if you take care of it, keep it clean and lightly oiled, and know how to sharpen, it will serve you well. IMO, for a 13 year old on a budget, get the Tenacious. Later on when you can afford more expensive knives buy a Manix. And a Paramilitary 2. And a Delica. And a Dragon Fly. And a Sage. I could go on all day.

I had a dream last night that I bought a Manix and it was the most uncomfortable knife I'd ever held...

So first thing this morning I was shopping online for one. Gonna have to find out for real

Glad to see that I can still remember Spanish

Another knife you should look into is the Spyderco Dragonfly, it fits your budget and it'll fit your smaller hands better. A Manix in your hands is like an adult carrying a Cold Steel Espada X-Large

Agreed! The manix is really a great knife and worth saving up for:thumbup: I thought the manix was too expensive at one time, then when I actually decided to buy one, I realized I have been missing out for years! The manix will outlive you, even if you're 13! And it is much better than buying a bunch of cheaper knives to substitute for now.

Just save up, it's well worth it!

he's 13! Not 7!

Heck, when I was 13 I had facial hair and had to shave, no lie! I'm Hispanic too, you know, we grow goatees at 10:D. I'm pretty much the same size now as when I was 14 and in high school (5'9"), I'm sure his hands are plenty big enough for a manix.

Estoy de acuerdo con Kershaws. The fact that you have to be patient and save up a bit for the manix will make you appreciate it that much more. And I believe from reading your post that you will be much happier with the g10 manix than the tenacious.

Bienvenidos al foro, y no se preocupe. Tu ingles esta muy bueno. One minor correction I would make is when discussing knives and guns, replace the word "weapon" with "tool". At 13 we all want you to enjoy these passions safely and responsibly with the right attitudes. Enjoy whatever you choose young sir! :)

Well, I think I would go for the Manix in Lightweight. I would definitely share with you what I finally bought, thanks for all your recommendations and good spanish also kershaws jaja! From now on I would use the word tool instead of weapon, alright!
David.

I also found the Manix 2 XL for 92 bucks, but is it a good edc? I can pay the extra 20 bucks, because this one is G10 and it's S30V. I don't care if I clip it in my jeans and there is no room for other things, but i don,t know if it would fit a pocket.

Thanks for your replies and hopefully my doubts don't seem annoying.

For that price, I'd go with the lightweight version in S110V for $10-15 more. Lighter in the pocket, still very grippy and the FRCP Spyderco uses is stronger than you would think. Plus S110V...

Obviously you have to decide what is the best use of your money. My first Spyderco was the Tenacious and, even though I recently acquired a PM2, I don't regret the money spent on my Tenacious. It is a solid, comfortable knife that will have a place in my rotation for quite a while.

So S110V is better than S30V?

By leaps and bounds. Of Crucible's CPM SxxV series, S30V is the bottom rung, S125V the top, though you don't see it much yet. S110V is considered a "super" steel.

Ok for the steels
It is a dificult decision because maybe the XL would be way too big. And I like better G10 than lighweight scales, and the only Manix 2 G10 that fits my budget and is on amazon is the G10 but
it's not a Full Flat Ground
