Little Green Squares?

I don't like the idea of a "rating" system at all. I don't think it is necessary, but since it is there, why not make it usefull?

I value everybody's opinion, especially those that don't like what I am doing or have done.

The critical critisism is what makes us all better makers, and for me personally, you are going to be very hard pressed to hurt my feelings by telling me what you think.

Just for example, look at how some constructive critisism transformed my Viking Dagger from an O.K. package to one that was pretty cool (even if i say so myself ;) ). How the comments were made rubbed some people the wrong way, but I took no offense, and it was very helpful in the end.

You probably have all figured out by now I don't care much what most people think of me. I try to be straightforward, and usually try to apply the principle my Grandmother taught me: If you don't have something good to say, don't say anything. Obviously, I'm not living up to that ideal. So it goes. The friendly give and take is why I call you folks my friends, regardless whether we agree on anything. If all my friends thought the way I do, I'd be bored to death. I'm here to learn and to, occasionally, have my horizons expanded. It's good.

I don't think a few whiners can ruin this place. What makes Shop Talk so valuable is that we have a fairly close community that has always been welcoming to new folks. That is seldom the case in other forums, or in high school. Because the general culture here is open and honest, those who try to make trouble or get pissy eventually just wander off for lack of fuel.

Green squares? Well, I just wondered what they were. Now that I know my life is just the same as it was yesterday. ;)

SOmeone gave me a red one the other day for agreeing in a post with Bruce Bump that 1/16" stock is my favorite for filet knives. Anonymous, of course. The only other red one I know of was anonymous for calling Glock pistols plastic imitations of real guns.

I went a long time without gathering many, then started the More Bad Jokes thread on W&C and got most from there. I just get a lot of jokes in email and wanted to share.

I have started using them to make agreeing statements (always signed) when I don't feel like posting, or it's a little OT.

Sorry I missed that before I started writing a minute ago Sean. That's a great example of how Shop Talk works and why I've learned so much from hanging around here. I get as much out of threads I don't participate in as from the ones I initiate. This is a great place, I don't care what Mike says. :D

The thing is, it's not meant to criticize your work.
It was never intended for that, but to criticize, or reward your actions, behaviour, or words on the forums. If it were intended to criticize your work, there'd be no need for non knifemakers to even have the feature.

Some jackass here is using this the wrong way, and I'd sure like to know who it is also, so I could ignore him too, like Bill B.:barf::rolleyes:

I'd give you bad rep points Dave, but they say I have to spread the bad stuff out to other members for awhile before I can slam you,.................again!;):D

O got one for the same reason Sean got his, and also unidentified... that has pissed me off but I later just forgot it. If it at least was signed, it would have not beend that bad.

Of course, maybe all these red dots probably are being distributed by IG. Before you get mad at him, let me explain that he was trying to give green dots but he is a Portagee... :D

I gotta' be honest, I NEVER even paid attention to those things until today.

After renewing my knifemaker membership and all... I figured I better pay attention to the various features around here.

Now I've been giving everyone negative points and not signing them!!! LMAO :D

Just kidding.

It is kind of a strange deal. I heard (but don't know for sure) that if you have a platinum membership it will tell you who left the comment whether they sign it or not. Anybody know if that's true?

That'd be worth the $10!

I can't find any negative ones on mine yet... but I KNOW there have to be LOTS. I can only see 4 comments on my user CP.

Scana!!!! I am color blind. HEHEHE!!!!

I enjoy the knifemakers here. Most everyone here is helpful to no end.
I try and put a word in when I think I know the answer to the question, and sometimes get it wrong, but there's nice people here to straighten me out without berating me or others.
Now, if you really like punishment, wander into Political. :(
The red chicklets will pop up out of nowhere...
Then there's W&C... ;)
It's nicer here.

i agree . i just checked to make sure that i didnt have a red.(i thought i wouldnt because i have hardly posted anything.. ) turns out i had an unsigned one too. and it was just a little thing tat i see nothing wrong with. i posted one of my knives here and asked oppinions and advice. got one just for doing it in the ADVICE form instead of the gallery. i always thought the gallery was for people who make good knives to show them off not for experienced people to tell you what you can do better.the system might be ok if anyone ever gave positive points, but i think people mostly just give negitive. :(

Who´s afraid of the little red dot?
little red dot?

Who´s afraid of the little red dot?

Go over to service and support, at the bottom of the general forums listing, and find the thread "Phantom Rep Points" or something of that nature.
You will need the date it was done, and the thread you were dinged for.

Post that info for Cougar. He's trying to track this puke down, and this will give him more ammo to use. Make this jerk walk the plank!!
