Good day,
I am asking for some feedback on what I should look at for my next addition to my collection. The holiday weekend may offer a good time to find something on sale.

If my budget was a bit more flexible I would likely just go for a Hinderer XM-18 as I have never owned one personally but they seem to fit my hand very well and it feels like time to add something a bit heavy duty to the collection. A friend let me borrow one for a few days and I was generally impressed

ZT makes nice quality and I would be fine with one, but one of the features I like on the XM is the finger choil, and I cannot seem to find a Hinderer style ZT with a choil.

Are there other options out there I am not seeing in the $250 range?

Basically I am split on flippers or thumb stud opening. I like either if designed well and having both is a bonus. This particular knife will likely spend most of it's life laying around the house and walking around the yard. I have smaller lighter options for work and play.

I just picked up a ZT 0561 Elmax and am pretty happy with it, some deals to be had on discontinued models.

How about an Emerson?

They have a couple flippers and the rest of their line all have thumbstuds/discs and/or the wave feature. There are spearpoints, tantos, bowies, recurves etc. so you have a wide selection on blade profile.

Most fall below or at your budget of $250 also.

You can find a used XM for around the 300 mark maybe the 250.00. I love my XM's but another one is a Chris Reeve if you want a amazing knife you can't go wrong with a CRK imo.

Guardian tactical has some nice knives. I found a site with some around $230, cant find it anymore but I've been looking as I want to pick one up.

I wanted the same thing. So i made it happen. Easy with a dremel. Go slow.

Save up and get an xm-18. I have seven ZTs bur none of them can replace my xm-18. Well, if you really want to stay below $250, get a ZT0562cf.

Check out the For Sale section of this forum, XM 18s can be found. I con't recall a ZT with a choil offhand.

This is one reason I like Spyderco. I like a choil and Spyderco does a great job of contouring the G10 to accommodate fingers. Is your heart set on a ZT? Maybe a Spyderco Manix 2 XL (love the ball bearing lock) and FFG blade. Or the ever popular Spyderco Paramilitary 1/2 or Military?
