Who here uses a small Spyderco for edc? Which one?

In my unending quest for the ideal edc. I always venture back to the idea that slimness in pocket, lightness, and sheeple friendly factor are important traits as a knife user and ambassador. Whipping out a 4" blade to slice open an envelope is fun, but is it necessary?

When I am using that practical, rather than passionate side of the brain, I keep feeling like my good old Spyderco Cricket would do 99% of the things I need a knife for on a daily basis. I'm really never too far to go get a bigger one if I really needed one.

But for daily tasks it seems a Spin, Cricket, dragonfly, or ladybug could do the lions share of my true edc uses (mail, threads, slicing tape to break down boxes, opening packages, light scraping chores, or sticker lifting, occasional wire stripping.) My practical side and knife loving/obsessed mind are at a constant war :o

I got a baby goddard and I am shocked how often I pull it out of my pocket instead of the larger spyders I'm carrying

I solve the problem by carrying both a large and a small knife, and using whichever I feel is appropriate. Keep a Stretch or C83 Persian in my back pocket and a Kiwi in my watch pocket. Most times the choice of which to use is dictated by what needs to be cut. Occasionally it's a concession to the sensibilities of others in my environment, though that rarely ever happens now that I'm retired. Still, most days, the Kiwi sees more use than the bigger blade.

I carry 2-3 daily. Currently I have a stretch in ZDP, a H1 ladybug on my keychain and a Salt Saver. As with Paul, it depends on where I am and what I am cutting as to which I will pull out but the Stretch sees the most action usually.

I am looking for the new CAT model. I am hoping it is just what I have been looking for. But I am a little worried that it will be too small.

I carry slippies but I just got a kiwi which will be in my pocket for a while. It carries nicely just like a traditional.

I'm not going to change my habits just because some ignorant person might be scared by an inanimate object.

I always pull my knife out and use it like I know what I'm doing and put it up. I have never had a problem with others. I guess maybe if you are looking around and checking over your shoulder before you pull out your knife you might look a little suspect.

I have learned you can get away with and do just about anything if you look like you know what you are doing and are confident.

I carry what I like and use it when the need arises.

Edit: I guess that doesn't really help. My smallest knife is probably my salt 1 which I use as a money clip. I use it sometimes but not often and it is mainly a backup knife unless I am on the boat. With H-1s edge holding I think I would go for a full serrated if I were to do it again for use on the boat.

My favorite small Spydies for EDC are D4's. I especially like the G-10 variant with the FFG blade as well as my Krein'd D4W. Some of my other EDC's in the same size range are the mini Persian, Caly 3 in G-10 and VG-10 and the Khukri. If I feel that even those are too big, I have a couple of Crickets, a Lava and a Meerkat that all handle most EDC chores very well.

Although I don't have either, I have heard nothing but good things about the Kiwis and Kopas too.

Lots to choose from when it comes to awesome small Spydercos.

Recently it's been a larger Stretch in ZDP, and a Black Pearl Micro Dyad as my EDC Tandem. The Micro Dyad gets Waaaay more use at work.

 This is what I do, too. Most days it's a Tasman BLP and waved E4 FRP, and again similarly, the Tasman does most of the work.

My true, little-big-knife is the Ladybug. It packs a lot in a very small package.

The kiwi is pretty and a good slicer, but to tell the truth, most of the time I have a ladybug or a bug on the keychain and something bigger in my pocket. What I use depends on the task and situation.

I've got a white Spyderco Dragonfly on the way that I may grind the clip off of and use like a traditional pocket knife. Just for occasions where a pocket clip showing could be considered inappropriate.

I carry the red micarta Jester, been carrying it since they DC'd the original line.

However one of the best for cutting is the Cricket.

I carried my dodo today which has a short blade. It's a great knife for an electrician. Feels great in the hand too.

I'm loving the cricket se and dodo se for my clipped on the pocket knife. Most of my knife uses during the day are slitting wires open lengthwise and opening boxes and things.
