I got tired of always being asked if I have any knives to show when people find out I make knives. So after a long hiatus from knifemaking a made these two for me.
First is a small Puukko inspried necker. Overall is 6 1/4 inches with a 3 inch blade. 1/8th O1 with my first true scandi grind. Natural G-10 with alu pin tubes.
Second is a bushcraft style like most seen around here but shorter(neck carry intended). Again 6 1/4 inches overall with a 3 inch blade of O1. This time a convex grind, my first attempt at this type of grind. Alu pin tubes.

I have been carrying the mini puukko for over a week now and love it. At first I thought it might have too much point and not enough belly but I was wrong. This has proven to be a very handy little blade. Overall I am happy with the scandi grind and find it holding up to lots of everyday type chores. Over the holidays I hope to try out some wood carving with it.

I have not used the mini bushcrafter yet, I would like to make up a leather sheath for it too while taking some much needed time off work this holiday season.

I like these two designs but think the handles would be much better a half inch longer.
I could definetly see the mini puukko without scales tossed in a psk and later cord wrapped if wanted/needed.

Let me know what you think.

Thanks and Merry Christmas
Craig

those look good. from what i can tell from here, i would say that your call on making the handles a little longer would probably be a good idea.

otherwise, i would say both are looking good

The mini puukko is has a nice blade but the mini bushcrafter is stelar! Love the handle size/shape/material and overall blade height.

Put the handle from the Mini Bushcrafter on the Puukko blade and you've got a winner.

wow, both of those look great, especially the little puukko. the longer handle would be the only improvment i can think of.

Very nice!!
I have really come to like that shape in a puukko style bush knife.
I would be interested in that blade shape about 4 to 5 inches long and a 41/4 -41/2 inch handle. Do you make knives on request?
happy holiday!!
Ted

....Let me know what you think.....

I think that those are two of the neatest things I have seen in a while.

I like your thoughts on the extra 1/2" of handle.
While "small," they would be a great big comfort to find in your pocket, PSK or neck sheath, in an emergency and would be very familiar when needed because it would be impossible not to EDC them and get to know them very well.

I really like the mini-puukko! Definitely would love something like that myself! :)

Craig, both of them look great but the Bushcrafter is awesome. I really like the size of it and everything.

The Belt'R I have is sweet. I still think it looks like a little Nessmuk.

Thanks folks:thumbup: I appreciate the kind words. The next ones will have a 1/2 inch longer handle but other than that I will leave them the same. I want to try them in 3/32 thick as well down the road.

Ted, I am not making knives on request right now. I have a baby on the way in March and a very busy 3 1/2 year old. My shop time is few and far between so I do not want to commit to anything right now. Thanks for the interest.

It is supposed to be 2 degrees tomorrow so I may go out and try these on some wood:D:D:D

Thanks again for the kind words.

Happy New Year!

Craig

Got to "play" in the backyard for 5 mins today while shoveling the snow....thought I would snap a quick pic of a fuzz stick I made out of some dried cedar. Not bad, not my best fuzz stick but I have not used the scandi grind a lot and am still getting used to the aggressiveness(is that a word) in wood work. I am definetly sold on this type of edge for bushcraft. As good as it is at everyday tasks...it flys though wood work. I really had to back off on the angle to get the nice curls.
I can't wait to test out my convex ground bushcrafter next:D

Tomorrow it is supposed to be above zero so I am going to take my son out to the backyard and make a small fire and make some hot chocolate for him on the open fire:thumbup: After three days in the house visiting and opening up presents I think it will do us both some good.
