took a little trip into the woods to do a couple of tarp setups for the tarp thread, but ended up getting comfortable and then running out of camera battery, so i just have these photos to show instead...
i went back to this perfect little spot that i know of on the little mountain behind the house. i haven't been there in a while, so i figured i would head back and check it out.
i set up my tarp space blanket over the oak logs that have been laying here for quite a while it looks like. (strange, since i've never seen a live oak on this mountain before).
i put some water to boil on my alcohol stove...funny story; i take out the stove and fuel bottle, and take out my zippo lighter. i flick the zippo, and works fine. i set it down and level a spot for the stove, fill it with fluid, and pick up the lighter and try to light it. no go. a full 45 seconds of flicking and still no flame...so i pull it out and pour a little of my denatured alcohol into the fuel area and it works fine. i finally get the stove going and set the water. while my water is boiling i walk around and pick up some twigs off of deadfall pine trees.
once the stove runs out my water hasn't quite boiled, not enough fuel in the stove, but it is plenty hot. i drop my tea in to set.
while i let the tea steep and cool a little, i build a small twig fire to enjoy just for fun.
sipped my tea and enjoyed the fire for a few minutes, then took everything down and came back down the hill. nice little afternoon walk even if i didn't get what i wanted to get done...
peeking into my shelter:
my groundcloth (as well as for the last few outings, it is a good groundcloth) with some of those tarp clips, it would make a decent emergency tarp by itself.
