10 min from your house ................. You are a lucky dog.. Very nice pics, I like that lizard in the pic. I wonder if he let you catch him so he can take a better look at you up close lol...

Runsalone-What WMA is that? Looks like you're in my back yard. This weekend was a great weekend to hit the woods. I actually got out a little yesterday but I took my wife and son horseback riding instead of woodsbummin. Looks like you had a good time.

Great pictures.

Does anyone kow what is going on with those trees? I have the same thing happening here to my maples and it is not beavers. There is no water with in seven miles or more for beavers, plus it seems way to high for beavers. At first I thought it was bucks, but it wasn't that. I never seen a buck rub go ALL the way around and on EVERY tree that was attacked for several feet up. The bark was striped clean just like in your pictures.

It happened all year long to, so I am not sure why an animal would eat bark when a 100 feet away is 100's of acres of hay and oat fields.

awsome! cant figure out what is going on with those trees though.

That s why I posted them up. I have no idea what did this. I guessed beaver cause thats the only thing that I could think of that eats trees on purpose . But the gnaw marks dont look right to me for that to fit. The ground was kinda turned up around it which is what I noticed first, so I thought "cool! maybe some hogs in this area" So I went to investigate and see if there were any marks on the trees where they might have rubbed, and found all the gnawings. No mud on the trees. I dont think theres much if any hogs in the place.

Maybe a porcupine ?

I wonder if theres something sweet to the bark or sap thats causing a critter to gnaw. I think one was a beech tree. (I think:confused:)

Any ideas?

I was thinking porcupine as well..some deer up here will "girdle" smaller trees in the winter time when the good stuff is scarce. But I doubt that is what is happening here..So I'm gonna stick with porcupine

I was thinking porcupine as well...might even be deer..up here they "girdle" smaller tress in the winter time when the good stuff is scarce..

When I first saw it from about 10 yards away I thought "man id like to see the deer that made that rub" But its not smooth and the trees are awful big for a deer to rub, even a big one.
