Well, Jake had to go and show his pictures, so I have to get mine posted!

We did a short trip to Colorado Bend State Park here in central Texas. Unbelievably, we were able to have an open fire!!!

The camp site was pretty simple, but had a nice rock wall at the back; this is me looking down into the camp site:

The wife used her MK2 to get our sheep-herder stew prepared. I used my Koyote Leuku and BRKT Golok to do some minor splitting/battoning and making shaving for the fire.

(for those that are wondering why her hair is green, well, she told her students that if they made a class average of 90% on their academics test, she would dye her hair greenl...she lost the bet…she only did the front, but she does get strange looks)

My wife thought she was being sneaking and catching me as I was looking for a good base for a fireboard…

Both the kids slept in their hammocks…they still need to work on getting them put up by themselves, but they slept well!

To be continued….

We did the Gorman Falls hike…it was humid and hot with desert-like conditions for about 2 miles and then you dropped into the river valley to see the falls...

Leo was pretty pooped! We went through plenty of water…

After a couple miles of dry, desert-like scenery, we dropped into the falls areas:

On the way out, we ran into a patch of cactus fruit…didn’t get any pictures, but it was a great treat for all of us.

Next week, we’ll being surviving the River Walk in San Antonio!

Awesome pictures Rock. Those falls look quite spectacular and refreshing compared to the fields. Family looks like they enjoyed it too.

Yeah...they "looked" refreshing. The area is now protected, so you couldn't get too close:grumpy: Oh well, it was much cooler down there at least:D

Looks like a great trip, Rock. Nice family, nice dog and a nice location make for a good trip. Good pictures, too.

Looks like a good trip. You must have had more rain up there if you were allowed a fire. Somehow, I've never made it to Colorado Bend. I was thinking about a trip to Perdenales SP soon. Maybe Colorado Bend ought to make the top of the list. The parks here around San Antonio are mighty dry. That looks lush around Gorman Falls by comparison.

Wow that looks great! My wife and I are going to Enchanted Rock next month to hike around, I hope it looks as nice as that.

Thanks all...

Perdenales is on my list. I was surprised we could have a fire as well...they usually are pretty touchy when it's the least bit dry. It was nice to actually make a fire outside of the small fire ring in the back yard:D Best thing about Colorado Bend is the Spicewood creek trail. It has a nice swimming hole at the beginning of the trailhead and it's a decent little hike for a few miles.
