I asked John what the wood was on the gunstock that appeared to be ironwod. Here's what John says,"The ironwood looking wood is una(oonyah) del gato. Literally translated it means fingernail of the cat. Figuratively...cat's claw. This small tree or large bush is very thorny..hence the name and is found in Baja Mexico in and around the arroyos(dry river beds) and can only be picked up if dead. It is a protected species when alive. This material has probably been dead anywhere from 50-200 yrs. It does not degrade with age. It is a desert ironwood but different than the typical ironwood in that this particular species does not burl..or at least...I have never seen a burl"

John loves interesting & good looking natural handle materials,as well as very hard to get synthetics, too. And he loves cutting the materials,as much as making knives.

This fine knife is hafted in good looking & tough, "una del gato". It has a custom engraved inlaid ss fish shield.I have these done, after the knife is together ,I send them out to my cousin down south.
3-3/4" closed,6-5/8" open. Blade measures 2-7/8" with a 2-5/8" cutting edge. SS mill relieved liners. SS pinched bolster& cap. Spring is dead flush in all half stop positions. Blade centers perfect, closed.About a six on the pull, glassy smooth action.Hollow ground CPM 154 CM ss clip pt. blade has a satin belt finish ,crescent nail pull & a cut in swedge.

$OLD

I do not know if I missed anything, but I'll add ...this is a super fine custom handmade slipjoint folder & the prices are fantastic. We still are in March & the madness is on
Please contact me if you need to. Thanks,-Vince
