Hi,
I will be purchasing a multi-tool and would like to have some advise.
What do you guys think? Should I get a Leatherman Wave or the Victorinox swisstool?

Thanks!

hey,my friend..i wonder u ever heard about swiss tool spirit...it is samller and had a better scissor than the curent swisstool......i suggest u to wait for it....it will be release soon i think.... :D

as for LM's wave ,i think it is gd and 100% stainless steel but the design is poorer than swisstool.

I do own a Wave, but I never handled a Swiss Tool. It seems to be of very good quality though. Before you make a decision don't forget that the Wave has two blades that can be opened one handed. In certain situations that can be a big advantage.

That is a cool option...I dont mind that the blades dont open with one hand. I looking for a tool which is very solid with a good quality of steel grade. I dont know about Leatherman's steel quality but as for victorinox IMO it is very good in terms of keeping and edge.(based on the victorinox knives I own) On another hand I do like the Wave's size, not too small and not to big (smaller than the swisstool). I had my friend's Wave in my cargo pants and it did not bother me at all. As for the swisstool being heavier and longer...I have yet to see. I kind of like the Wave's scissors but it is not a must for me in a multi-tool therefore I could live without. The swisstool is an all locking tool which I do like and also all of it's tools are easy to access and without having to open the pliers (I also like that option) The wave's knives, saw and file all lock and are accessible without opening the pliers. For now it is kind of hard to make a choise being the fact that I have naver holded a swisstool in my hands untill tomorrow I will go to the store and see the swisstool and will choose either it or the Wave.

Any other opinion or comments about either the wave or the swisstool would be apreciated.

Thanks you!
Alex

Get a Leatherman Charge Ti !!!

I have a SwissTool X and until the Charge came out I personally thought it was the best Multi on the market (better than the Wave) but Victorinox is launching the SwissTool Spirit soon so I'm gonna wait and see how good that it before buying

If you do buy a Wave wait a little longer as LM are releasing an improved version this year - almost the same as the Charge and a bit cheaper

In fact you could choose between a Wave, new Wave, Charge Ti, and two Swiss Tools. This doesn't make it any easier I guess. If you don't want to wait for the other models you can choose between the Wave and the Swiss Tool. Let us know what you decide eventually and how you like it. I personally will buy a Charge Ti when it becomes available here. I like the same advantages as the Wave has (four blades on the outside, two one handed opening) but also the fact that it has seperate screw driver bits. This way you are able to replace a bit should you damage it.

Before typing this reply I decided to check the company who imports Leatherman tools into the Netherlands. To my suprise I saw that they added the Charge to their collection! This does not necessarily mean that they can deliver them right away but it won't take long. The price is € 170,- Check it out yourself: link to Charge Ti. Click on 'catalogus'. Maybe it's available in Belgium now too.

Thanks for your help guys...did not really narrow down my decision but thanks just the same! :)
The thing here is that I can't wait for a tool to be out in the near future cause I'm leaving on a trip in 12 days (Cuba) and wanted to bring a multitool along with me just in case.
So I'm leavin the house now to check out the swisstool and will come back with it or with the wave or even maybe something else by leatherman...

I'll be back later on to let you guys know what I purchased and why.

THanks again!

Guys,
you wont belive what I purchases...A Leatherman mini-tool!!!! I did not know such a small multi-tool with full size pliers existed!! I mean this tool has everything I need,a strong plier, wire cutter, file, bottle opener (beer:)),small flat head screw driver, can opener (could be useful for a quick snack),a ruler and a small knife. It's light and I dont feel it at all in my pockets... And when I was thinking it was all...Every tool locks in place squeezed between the handles!!! WOW!! I'm totaly blowned away!!
I guess I did not need so many tool on the first place. But if Leatherman could come up with the same mini-tool and ad some scissors it would be the most perfect tool for me!!
Thanks for you help guys!

oh u guy.......actually i am thinking of buy a MIni-tool before.....but too bad it dun had scissor......that is wht i need for nail threatment or hair cutting,etc.....it is small but the folding handle is not convienience for me... :grumpy:

but is it strong and solid?? plus,i heard the can opener is very weak at all...

I can't speak for the new Charge's, but I do have a couple of Waves and a Swiss Tool. I typically keep my Wave's for Urban use...typically EDC, but, when I'm out hiking/camping I like the Swiss Tool. If you plan on being in a remote area, I'm pretty confident in the Swiss Tool construction, built like a tank. It is larger in size and weight, but that's the extra weight that I find comforting. Also, the Swiss Tool has been the more secure with the locking tool feature...but the new Leatherman will now offer that. Also, it depends on you pliers...the Wave has true needle nose, which are extremely handy, but the Swiss Tool has a modified, more blunt design. I typically prefer needle nose, as they are more suited to most of my needs.

Tough choice, but it really depends on you own likes/dislikes. I like the blade on the Swiss Tool better, along with the saw blade. I like the needle nose pliers on the Wave, and the scissors are a nice option (although there's a Swiss Tool with that option now). Size/weight may be a big factor as well...where the Wave has the advantage over the Swiss Tool. The one-handed opening feature is great if it's your only knife (I always carry additional knives, so it's a nice feature, but not necessary).

Now it looks like I'm going to have to add the new Swiss Tool and Charge...just to keep an informed outlook on mulit-tool use :D

Glad you found something you like. The Mini-tool seems to be overlooked by a lot of people.

If you find that you really need scissors you could always get a LM Micra or a little Swiss army knife to put on your keychain. Cheap and easy to carry, but a great complement to the mini-tool.

I own both and find I carry the Wave more, due to the one-handed opening option. The SwissTool is much beefier and has all the tools you'll need (except scissors, but that's easily handled with a Micra as stated above).

IMHO you would do well with either, but I'd pick the Wave. ;)

I currently have 2 waves and several other multi-tools.I used to own a Vic Swiss-tool R model with seat belt cutter instead of the X model w/file.The swiss-tool is a very nice piece of equipment but so heavy that I would have regulated it as a glove box tool only if I were to have kept it.I really should have kept it as it was such a fine piece.tom. :)
