With recent talk on the forum about Skunk Cabbage I figured I'd do one of my favourite hikes where there are loads of the stuff to be found !!!

On my way there I came across this fella, unfortunately my pic came out a little blurry, my hands shake if I'm sober !!!!

Anyways as soon as I started the hike there was that unmistakable smell !!!

And wherever I found water....

I found Skunk Cabbage.....

I came across this on my hike, I always find it amazing how a tree will eventually absorb an old wire fence....

After a while it was time to stop for my usual flask of tea, I found this neat little spot, when I first arrived I nearly put my hand on a little lizard that lives in the cracks of the rock just below my pack. I waited to see if he would come out again for a pic but he didn't !

Maisy had her girly collar on again !

We then headed back into the woods for our return journey....

There were plenty of these wood ants being busy in the forest....

All in all not a bad hike !!!!

Great pics as usual pitdog! I have dial-up but the wait is worth it when I see your posts! Is that skunk cabbage edible or is it just folliage?

It's been talked about on some recent posts and the verdict is that , yes it's edible but only as a very last resort. The first nations people used to mash up Salal berries though and spread them out in the sun on the Skunk Cabbage leaves to dry into a type of bar !

Cool that pup sees more time in the woods than most people. He looks like he enjoys it too.

Man I hope she don't see your post, Maisy is a girl, she has started wearing her flowery coller cos people kept calling her a him !!!!

I alway look forward to seeing your picture of your hikes. Cool pics as always. I don't what you see in Skunk cabbage, but I could deal without them or their smell. LOL

while the chinese workers were working in the gold mines and the railroad, their diets consisted of skung cabbage and rice.

I like the photo of the wire in the tree. When I was travelling in Central America, they didn't bother with posts at all, and just strung wire in the trees where needed. Doesn't look very pretty, but I'm sure I'd much prefer it to pulling lines the traditional way.
