How many times have you loaned your knife to a friend only to see him/her attempt to pry off the back of their watch etc.??

I recently loaned my leatherman micra to by bother in law, only to see him use it as a
pair of piers.

Did you learn your lesson? Lending a non-knife person your tool, is like giving your car keys to a drunk, only less expensive.

The SAK on my keychain is my "loaner". All others are exclusive to the owner.

I don't think that most of us carry junk knives.I don't lend one of mine unless I know exactly what's to be done with it.Usually, I just volunteer to perform the task. Results in less bloodshed on an average!

I'm with stjames...... the POS on my keyring is for the LAME-O's that don't have their own knife.

No one (unless I know they're knife saavy) gets to handle the others.

I once used the large blade on a SAK to stir rotten sourpuss, unbeknownst to it's owner, who later used the knife to cut the cheese.

I once loaned my knife to a friend and he cut open some bags with it. The problem was he caught me by suprise and tossed it back to me. It was one of those "think quick" situations and naturally I dropped it and scratched the nickel silver bolsters. He probably wouldn't throw a gold ring like that, why would edged pocket jewelry be any different? Some people just don't understand.

I have two or three knives that that have been very well used that I will lend out, maybe. All the others, no chance. The only exception is when I'm in the field with a group and someone actually needs my knife[or one of them]for a task. Nobody can love my knives like daddy.

Within a close circle of friends, yes without a moment's hesitation. Same goes for rifle, handgun, car, . . .

I know that they will take better care of it than I would simply because it is not theirs.

I have, but now only if I know from being told, from the circumstances, or from who is asking, what the intended use is to be.

I'm more careful after the person who was cleaning my office asked if I had a knife, wanted to borrow it, and proceeded to cut the vacumn cleaner cord with my Gerber Paul Model 2P. Hopefully, he did not use it to screw the screws back into the plug, but who knows. Probably cutting modest copper wire was within the realm of reason (his not mine) but it bothered me a little. Besides I did not have a Sharpmaker then. I recall being able to detect a little effect on the edge (the screws? shudderrrrr!!!) but nothing of great significance.

Learned my lesson the hard way too many times. I usually ask what the person intends to use it for. Then I offer to do it for them if it is knife appropriate. If they don't want me to, I let them know that its my baby, and I don't let anyone use my baby. I'll gladly do it for them, if they want.

I ask what their gonna use it for,but if it is someone that I do not know then I've been known to say,Sorry I don't have one.I learn that when a guy wanted to cut duct tape that was covering a floor drain and he was going to cut right against the concrete floor. It never ceases to amaze me at the amount of people that don't carry a common pocket knife.

I usually have an Opinel somewhere that I offer to loan them.

I once also had a guy want to use my knife to pry the back of a watch off, ID10T.

I work at a cutlery shop and they all respect knives and/or know that I spent the equivalent of their monthly wages on my last knife.

Ditto on the offering to accomplish the task for them.

A frind of mine once tossed a knife to my brother, it opened in mid air, my bro recognized this and passed on catching it.

It'd better be a life and death situation or forget it. No one not knife savvy even gets to borrow my most beat up SAK because I just know a non-knife person usually has something stupid in mind when it comes to knives and really needs a pair of scissors or a hammer or some other tool.

For any survival / emergency class knife I always give it to non-knife people with no restrictions on usage to see how it holds. Similar could happen in a real event.

I don't carry a knife which I'm not willing to use and use hard, so I'll loan it to anyone who asks. If the knife isn't up to it, it's not one I should have been carrying in the first place.

Never have, never will.
I have had many things, lost, destroyed or stolen and will no longer volunteer my property for that option.
I do have a pair of scissors you can use....

I've loaned houseguests my CSVG for an around-town carry blade. Did I mention that I'm in a BAD town

I'll only give my knifes to people I know are able to handle them with a minimum loss of fingers - there are too many idiots around.
