  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

Local Dealer has Kalinga Pro's (#408 & 419!)

Stainz - The liner lock on the Kalingas is .040" thick, and it is plenty tough enough - it's the same thickness as the Alpha liner.

As the 408 sheath goes, if you are unhappy with it you can feel free to send it back for replacement. We actually made a design change to it before most of the 408's shipped but I think a few got out with the old style sheath. The new style goes straight down from top to bottom on the side where the leather is folded. Can you post a pic of your sheath so I can tell which one you have?

Try putting it in both ways - I know it fits in one of the buck cordura sheaths - I am pretty sure it was the Alpha sheath.

Here is an interesting tidbit guys. I remember now Jimmer talking about the Alpha sheath.

However, I don't think it is the Alpha sheath he tried. I think it was the very similar sheath that the 110/112 Transition came in.

That sheath is 3/8 to 1/2 inch taller than the Alpha sheaths. I just stuffed an alpha down into a Transition sheath and it almost buried in it.

So,,,maybe we do still have a horizontal carry option for a 419. If, ya have one of the Transistion 110/112's. Maybe that transistion sheath will be an option at Buck.

Geeze,,I apologize for the cornfusion I caused. I just forgot that thread where Jimmer already answered this.

Yall be sure and don't hang around me, this olderndirt thing could be contageous.

Ok here is a picture of the old and new 408 Sheaths. Both of these work but the new style works better. They both would normally be burgundy in color but the only old sheath I could lay my hands on this morning was a black sample. As I said before, almost all of the 408's that have shipped have the new style sheath.

Thank you Jimmer_5!
Pretty easy to see the diff in the pics.
I'm thinking I like the new style as it appears that the knife would rest lower. It would reduce encroaching on my love handle(s) when sitting/riding.
What was the reason for the design change?

Actually, they hang about the same height. The change was made to the 408 sheath because we felt that the tip hung up too easily going into the sheath.

Also, to answer some questions on the 419, I am sitting at my desk and I just put a 419 into an Alpha nylon sheath, and it is a little snug, but I can snap it closed just fine. The trick is that you have to put the knife in butt end first - for some reason, it won't snap shut if you try to put the knife in bolster end (pivot end) first. The same applies to the 415.

The other important thing to know is that the 419's and 415's is that these knives are meant to go in to their original sheaths BOLSTER end first. I realize that for some reason human nature seems to make people want to put the knife in butt end first, but they aren't meant to go into the sheath that way. I realize this may be considered an inconvenience by some, but that's just how they work. Think of these sheaths as larger versions of the Alpha Dorado (260, 271) sheaths.

My 408 K-P sheath is rounded, like the 'Old Style' picture, yet burgundy in color - like the 'New Style' picture. Confusing... and, yes, the knife is hard to secure in position, although, as I said, it's normal 'position' is in a display case less the sheath. I may have to get a 419 ASAP... the state can live without those property taxes...

Stainz

Stainz - as I said before, the sheaths in the pic SHOULD have both been burgundy - the only old style sheath I could find for the photo was a SAMPLE that we had made up in black - normally it would be burgundy colored. If you have an old style sheath and you are unhappy with it, we will exchange it for you.

In any case, I'm glad you like the knives, and I hope you enjoy them!!

Yes, I understood re the 'sample'...

Here is my new goodie - in a picture made for a 'gun & knife' thread elsewhere.

The revolver is a S&W 625 'Mountain Gun' in .45 Colt.

Stainz

Stainz - no offense intended - people just have a tendency to look at the picture, ignore the words and then ask "why is it black?"

Great to hear all these good comments on the 415 & 419. Still waiting to see my first one in person.....
