Local knife shop generosity!

That's awesome! I have been searching for a 31.5 pattern to carry, as that is my grandfather's pattern. And while I have his knife, I wish to preserve it as he left it. Someday I will find one for the right price and pull the trigger. Enjoy the heck out of it. I can't imagine the knife you paid for being better!

The knife I paid for was a Benchmade Volli. Nice knife but not a traditional for sure! Im very impressed with this Case. The main blade spring is thicker than the pen blade spring. I have not observed that very often. Its beefy for a slipjoint. The springs are a solid 8 so they are pretty tough. I wish the covers were ebony or bone but beggars cant be choosers!

Word order fun: Oh, to have a shop on the island that sells knives.

"Where do you live?"
"I come from [dramatic pause]:

... The Island That Sells Knives."

:D

{cough}

(...We long ago established that I'm easily amused....)

I live on a small Scottish island. What do we have to offer...? peat, sheep and midges... What do we make....? Tweed, black pudding and whisky.
No knives.
Unfortunately we're two and a half hours by ferry (assuming the weather permits sailing) from the mainland and its a bit far to warrant a trip purely to indulge my hobby. I have to go Microsoft window shopping.

Well, at least you got the most important thing.
My mother's first name being "Islay", I have a thing for Islay whisky, and for Scotch whisky in general.

If memory serves, I think you are not on Islay, but on one of the more northerly islands? Perhaps near Stornoway? I didn't think there was a distillery on that island. But at least the "water of life" would be available.

If it makes you feel any better, I have to do my shopping via the good services of Microsoft, also. And while I may pay less than you for knives, I pay more for usquebaugh.

Indeed, I am near Stornoway on Lewis and we do have our own distillery, Abhainn Dearg it's called down in Uig. It's relatively new, being the first legal distillery for some time. Note the use of word legal. It has produced it's first single malt in 2012 having left the spirit for the required 3 years to mature in order to call it that. You can also buy the raw spirit (Which will put hairs on your chest for sure) but its a bit harsh.

Speaking of Islays though, have you tried 'big peat' ? It's about the best Islay blend I've tasted in years. Another step up in class (and price) from 'black bottle'.

Paul

Haven't tried Big Peat, but I will definitely seek it out. THANKS!

That´s a great act, Dave. It´s good to see that people, even the ones that run a business and need to live from the money they make every day show off generosity.

Thanks for sharing. :)

You're about an hour from Edgeworks, in Frederick Maryland. Good shop, give them a try.

Thanks. I'm aware of them but haven't been. Just yearning for the convenience of yesteryear where local shops resided on the main streets of most towns. I'll make it to Edgeworks eventually.

Sean is good people, check his store out. Perfect location, as far as I'm concerned. In the middle of some of the most beautiful country I've laid eyes on. I do a lot of trading with him, and have even bought some knives from him ;).
