Nice pics. Looks like someone really had a blast with the new toys.
Did you by any chance use the AH1 to strike the fire kit, steel, what ever it's called?

The lite machete was a joy to use on the trail, very quick in hand and I was whacking down 1.5" diameter limbs with one stroke....
I was slightly worried about the thickness of the machete and usage in Texas but before I knew it ,I never thought about it again, once in the thick of the trail around 6pm in was pretty dark no sun light to penetrate thru the foilage...I just hacked and whacked thru the shoulder high tall grasses to the creek bed....
Piddled around on a sand/gravel bar and whipped out the AH1 & Firekit and split some cedar I hacked off some dead fall and went to work.... on my 3 strike fire was achieved....I was just testing the AH1 & the fire kit reason why the fire was not built of top of cedar plank, just lying on damp sand bar...fire was achieved then tossed in to flowing stream...

I didn’t know you played soccer TTD. :D

So THAT is what the outdoors looks like. Huh, I’m going to have to try that one of these days. I figure work will slow down right about the time it starts snowing again.

Great pics and nice tools!

I took the Godfather of the Junglas to compare with the newest offering.
The RTAK was around 1997 I think ? with limited numbered produced..... and now to present day the Junglas.....
Man I love this Beast. Very comfortable to hold,& use and without effort it laid out some 3" diameter limbs /small trees with ease....
The sheath is a great addition to a awesome knife ,I forsee the Junglas being the new Flagship model for ESEE knives, couple with a Izula or ESEE3 would be a great woodsman edition.

That red cedar makes it easy to start a fire, eh?

was not bad.... it caught a flame and smelled good too

the AH-1 makes a good striker ,it is in how you hold it & not cut yourself :D

I seen a few copperheads but was quicker than I.. did not want to be in a photo

The outer bark from cedar is one of the best tinders you can get. Simply scrape it off with your knife (don't cut it since you will get into the inner bark), then break it up by rolling it in your hands. Make a tinder ball and it will light with your striker.

Another thing about Red Cedars is birds love to build nests in them since they are protected pretty good. Bird nests are dry and make really good tinder.

Yes Sir ,one of the Best Tinders easily found in my area.....
I keep a quart ziplock bag of cedar bark with my gear as a back up instead of dryer lint like most peeps pack.

I never have cared for dryer lint as a tinder. I know a lot of people use it but it's just not something I care for with the way it burns. Now, if I can't find any tinder I will take my knife and scrape my blue jeans (or Carhartts) until I get a nice ball of fluffy cotton (like dryer lint) and use that, but again I don't care for the way it burns. Cedar bark is far superior in my opinion.

I was really impressed with the Lite machete and just using the machete straight from the Sheath with the edge on it.... I scraped tinder, cut grasses, limbs and the word Lite is perfect... Great cutting ability with little effort involved, I love the micarta handle, provides a sure grip and no slippage at all. I know the Lite machete is more at home in South America but I truely enjoy using one of ESEE newest offerings ,I'll buy a second one so my wife or Son dont take this one LOL :D

With all the fufu smelling crap my wife insists on dumping in the washing machine and dryer, the lint that comes out of ours feels like it’s made of plastic and doesn’t burn all that well. That’s why whenever I hear people using a bag of lint as tinder, I always tell them to check it out first. If I’m toting tinder with me, it’s going to be PJ cotton balls. It’s nice being able to throw a fire ball at it from three feet away with the fire kit, then taking my sweet time building the fire over it.

great pics tony...looks like you had a great weekend....i love the looks that creek...nice clean looking water...nice and cooling for the texas heat
