I was wondering about steel lock face inserts on frame locks and "bolster" lock knives. I am not sure that I can adequately explain my question/idea, but I will give it a try. From what I have seen, the lock bar insert tends to be attached to the lockbar via a little pocket milled into the underside of the thick frame or bolster lock bar head with screws with thread in from the topside. I was wondering if any of you fine folks had ever seen a liner/bolster lock setup where the majority of the lock bar is hidden by scales and the insert is actually part of the bolster installed on "top" of the lock bar and screw in from the bottom? Ny thinking was that if you had a bolster made say from martensitic damascus, you could do a bolster lock with the damascus being VISIBLE hardened steel "insert' The bolster piece would have the pocket milled into the bottom and the end of lock bar would be sitting up inside that pocket. Anyone ever seen this done? Any thoughts?

For the first part of the paragraph I think your talking about lock bar on something like a Viper Ten or something but then you start talking about bolster locks which makes me think are you some how thinking of Italian Stilettos with a bolster lock?

No, on the Viper, the entire lockbar is separate and attached to the frame or scales. I am talking about what Ray Laconico did with this knife, but with the bolster being made for separate material. He milled the "liner" part down so that he could have flush scales on a frame lock. Same concept but I am talking about a damascus "overlay" at the head of the lock bar with the hardened steel front edge being the lock face. .
