Lock Stick on Para-Military 2 & Spyderco Warranty Fail

@tirod3 The world isn't going to handle 100% of my problems? Thanks for the lesson! I thought we were talking about knives here? I'm comparing Spyderco's initial customer service response with those of other companies. Apples to apples :) For everyone else, Spyderco is my favorite knife company. I have bought more from them than anyone else, and I doubt that will change. I'm just saying I was surprised by the initial reaction to my warranty inquiry.

Don't feel special, it's their initial reaction to everybody's warranty inquiry. They are also very clear that parts, labor, and shipping will not be charged if it is in fact covered.

@ALLHSS How is being honest & having an opinion about an experience reacting poorly? I still love Spyderco, which I state pretty clearly in my vid. When I get my blade back, I'll do a follow up :)

What's your experience with Lock Stick on the Para-military 2? Who is your favorite company for customer service?

Basically when locks have room to adjust to wear it also gives them the ability to wedge in deeper when they are opened hard and that along with any galling causes the stick. It is actually a quite nice if you ever intend to do more than open letters with it.
It sounds like your knife is fine and it also sounds like Spyderco handled the situation just fine. You have to remember that there are for some reason tons and tons of people who buy these knives and find some absurd reason to send them back and that adds up fast. If you want the no questions asked policy you need to look more toward Benchmade or Emerson but let me tell you that it does get built into the price of the knife ;)

Keep us posted and let us know if they actually think something is wrong because after watching your vid a few times while it does seem like your knife is on the stickier side it doesn't seem that anything is actually wrong with it. Toughen them hands up boy ;)

Hi StartUp,'

I would suggest you send the knife to our customer service. I'm sure we'll take good care of you.

We manufacture knives with all screw construction not because we want you to take them apart. We do so, so our Crew can take them apart for maintenance and repair. I'm sure there might be some other questions, but bottom line, if you take your knife apart, the warranty is void.

Italics is from TazKristi. I am not against disassembly. I have taken some Spyderco's apart. If I have to send them in for warranty I know it will may cost me $25 dollars.
I was looking for that very quote but was unable to find it, I did find this as well.

ETA: In regards to the Manix2 sticky lock issue, everyone has a different amounts of hand strength. Some a lot more than others, as it depends on various things. There is no such thing as a sticky lock on that knife, at least I've never seen one and I've owned almost every Manix2 model there is short of the CFS90V version. You can either pinch the cage and pull the spring tension back, or you can't. There is nothing to get "sticky".
A far as sending in money, well Mcrotech, ProTech, Emerson, asks for a check or money order to be sent in with knives to cover return shipping. I'm sure other companies do request similar, but these are just some that come to mind.

I think we have our answer. You have "The Man" Mr Glesser himself answering this post. It has been my experience that Spyderco is a fantastic company, and that was just re-affirmed. How many companies have the owners themselves getting on forums and stating "I'm sure we can take care of you"? I think that alone speaks volumes about the man, and the overall attitude of the company. A 4 minute video was posted on You Tube, blasting his product, BEFORE he was even given a chance to make it right, and he answers you with class. Call me a "fan boy" if you want, but Spyderco is a company I'd be glad to be a "fan boy" of.

Thanks Sal. I've sent it in. You guys are an awesome company, and my favorite knife manufacturer. Will be buying more knives in the future!

Hey Fan Boy, Did u watch the video? I wasn't blasting his product. I love that knife & the company. Which is exactly why I was surprised by the response I got from customer service, and hence made a vid about it.

hmmm...I just saw this 800lb gorilla in the room:

"Lock Stick on Para-Military 2 & Spyderco Warranty Fail"

In fact he's what brought me into the thread....

I couldn't believe there had been a "Sypderco Warranty Fail".

And damn if there wasn't even a whiff of a warranty issue to be found..............

Figure it needed to be pointed out, free of charge of course.

Back to the doghouse......
