Lock Strength - Manix 2 vs Ultimate Hunter

Depends on the button lock. I'm guessing the Hogue button locks would do really well, though not as well as the Triad.

True. Same applies to liner locks and such as well. Properly dome one will do far better than one that isn't.

I think it's about fair to say the triad is the strongest lock out there in production knives...maybe all knife locks.

I agree. I'm really hoping the Triad variant on the upcoming Tiger Claw is everything I hope it will be. That thing looks like it will be very quick and easy to disengage which, when combined with the strength the Triad already has, would easily make it my favorite locking mechanism.

yep. i'm with ya.

exciting time for cold steel fans........cs management has made some good calls and planning, imho.

I wonder how the compression lock would fare?

I was wondering the same thing.

Not to bash Emerson, but we all know they'd never hold up to that kind of abuse. It's the design of the liner lock. Theyre just not meant to support that kind of weight or shock.

Love my Cold Steel as well as my Spydercos, but I'm a big Emerson fanboy too.
That said, I agree that the Emerson liner lock would not hold up to that abuse -- a liner lock is just not designed for that. Several years ago Ernie made a statement that he would not recommend using his knives to stab anything, due to the liner lock.

I own a lot of folders and the only lock that I would trust to hold up in a zombie apocalypse would be the Triad lock. A shout out to the Recon 1!!

Vininull tested an EX-03 and the liners bent holding the button lock in place. Fairly easy if I remember it right.

Always like seeing things tested, in this case, I'd recommend that the camera get in a little closer, possibly a wide shot first to show the overall mech to those that haven't seen the 30 pound weight, but after that, the key interest is right up where the knife is striking and that is pretty small image in the video.

Love the UH btw ;) sharp as the dickens and locks up like a vault...of course!

I will be testing the Ultimate hunter soon, got one at Blade Show.

Will be running the edge retention test and will be doing a review on it.

Just got my ultimate hunter in the mail today and this thing is a beast. No surprise it held up so well during the lock test.

Looking forward to that! Always like your video. If only you bring back the old style hard use test, but then it has proven that CS is strong...

Love my Ultimate Hunter too, especially the flat grind.

Would be redundant to keep doing those and learned what I really needed to learn from the ones I did.

Jim sounds good sir, I'm very impressed at how well this knife cuts so far, just trying out an idea for paracord, making a dye, basically a groove in some aluminum and lighting the end of the paracord and pressing it down into that groove so it will be in a more pointed end for knot/lanyard tying, and the UH just so effortlessly pops the paracord it's crazy sharp ;)

I m looking forward to this test also. I got an Ultimate Hunter and i really like the size, ergonomics and apparent strength of the knife. I look forward to your edge retention test of the xhp with an rc of 60-61.

I would like to read this interview, since Emerson knives are advertised as being pretty much purely self defense tools.

I will be running the UH after I get done with the S125V blade that I am in the process of testing now, having to pace myself with this one.

I kind of want to see the Spyderco GB, vs the cold steel code 4. Two gentlemen knives made from the same country and city.

The Code 4 is not a gentleman's knife, "Code 4" means no assistance needed in police code or whatever. The Gayle Bradley, though probably more towards a gentleman knife, is a knife designed and made for work according to the designer himself.
