Hi Santi. It depends on the model and the designer. If it is a collaboration design, we generally go with the choice of the designer. In some cases, we make adjustments. The original Chinook was designed for a linerlock. I changed the design when we compared the numbers on lock strength. It is easier to make a lockback reach that MBC lock strength rating (200 inch/lbs of lock strength for each inch of blade length) than a linerlock.
With in house designs, it depends on the function of the knife. In house MBC Designs such as the Temperance will be using our new Compression Lock becaue of the lock strength and reliability of the lock.
The Vesuvius uses a thinner compression lock because the strength requirements are not the same for the model. In a gents folder, a linerlock works well. Lockbacks require more room in the handle, so not all designs will work.
hope this helps.
