lockback repair question

Maybe the perfessionels can help me out here - I bought a sweet Browning copy of a Bailey Bradshaw pocket bowie, a nice gent's lockback with SS bolsters. Love the knife (always lusted after the original), but at some point I began getting dramatic blade play when closed. However when locked it's nice & tight. I don't see any gaps anywhere. Any ideas how to fix this? I could send it off to Browning but since there were only 500 made I doubt they'll have a replacement, and they aren't really set up for tinkering/repair (I figure Moki probably make the knife).

Sincere thanks for any suggestions, I really love the knife!

dose it open easier now that this has happened? im thinking that you might have some wear on those liners. dose it have pins or screws for the pivot? if screws you might take it apart and check the liners and or washers for wear marks if not you might try peening the pivot to make it tighter but do a little at a time if you decide to do this because it will make the action tighter and stiffer

If the lock bar is correctly engaging the notch in the blade when it is locked open it will tie the blade to the lock bar and make the blade appear tighter than it really is. Hold the knife upside down with the blade open and press the release while attempting to move the blade side-to-side with the other hand. My guess is that you will have the same amount of play that you have when it is closed.
In other words, there is play between the blade tang and the bolsters that is not noticable with the lock bar engaged.
