Continuing with the recent spate of threads featuring "traditional" patterns, I thought it might be interesting to look at some lockbacks that are either based upon old classics or are more modern interpretations of those time honored patterns.

To start off, here's three based upon the classic old Remington 1306 pattern:

Thanks for that. Personally I think that the Tomes and Chamblin examples represent the most elegant of folding knife styles. Certainly my favorite pattern.

Great thread. Thanks for sharing. I have really enjoyed the recent spate of posts from you.

I thought the Ryuichi Kawamura: Lockback & Slipjoint was going to be the show stealer for me. Just a great looking rendition of the lock back and slip joint combo.

But, man o man, that Ken Erickson just looks so nice with the butterscotch handle scales. The combo of the long pull, great looking grind on the clip point, and the straight lines on the handle profile just all combine to make me smile!

Very nice Elliott. While they are all beautiful knives, the Kawamura is beyond words...

I like lockbacks. Not because I think all knives should lock, but more so because there is something very soothing, and therapeutic, about opening a lockback, and hearing that " click " . :D

MORE simply stunning knives Elliot. It would be tough to pick a favorite from that group.

Here is a "baby bullet" rendition by Tim Britten. I really like the stag and BG-42 is one of my favorite blade steels. It is very smooth and well made:

Thanks gents...please feel free to post up examples of your own custom lockbacks with a "traditional" flair...

Elliot, that fist Tomes looks very familiar. I think I owned that knife?

Good stuff man!!!

You sure did own it, Don. As I recall its history, you bought it from P.J. at a show where you () didin't have a knife with you.
You sold it to me when you were in the market for a scope for one of your rifles if I remember correctly.

It's a great little piece. Not forged 52100 like its brother, but excellent nonetheless.

And now my memory slowly returns...:cool:

Now THAT floats my boat. Wow. The super traditional stuff doesn't quite do it for me, but this one is incredible.

Reminds me of the next time I found myself at the airport with a Case slimline in my pocket. I realized it before we got to security and couldn't stand to lose another. I saw all these giant potted plants around. So I burred my knife in a plant pot and guess what? It was right there 3 days later when we returned...

I'm not a frequent flier, but do have a pocket knife in my pocket when I'm wearing pants.! :D

Glad you like it. Jerry delivered that one personally when he came to visit for a few days after Blade. It's his "Hidalgo" pattern, 4 1/8" closed, CPM-154 and random weave carbon fiber.
Weighs in at a scant 2 1/4 ounces.

It's one of my regular EDC's since receiving it along with the yellow micarta Erickson.

This works pretty dang well for me!

That's Jerry's "Rounder". When he came up with the frame for that pattern I suggested the blade profile to him and it's been a pretty popular model for him ever since.

This one is 3 5/8" and 2.5 ounces. It was his other delivery during the visit.

I really like Jerry's Hidalgo. He is making me one in Mike Norris hornets nest damascus blade and old growth redwood burl that I sent him. No shield. Great knives as usual, Elliott.
