Locked out

Have you ever locked yourself out of your car?

Nope, but some of my prime years to do that I was driving a motorcycle. My friend lost his motorcycle key at the beach and I had to double him to go get a spare. 200 miles round trip.

Lots of people forget to set their pin codes in the newer bikes so when they lose the proximity fob or the fob battery goes dead, they’re in a pickle.

I set mine and use it every now and then just in case I find myself in that situation lol.

locked myself out with the vehicle still running. Wife had to ride her bike down with the spare key, good thing it didn't happen further away from home
Ran into some folks at the mailbox down the road who were dog sitting. Jumped out of the truck and left it running with the dog to get their mail.

The dog then re-locked the doors and began to run amuck inside the vehicle, shredding garbage etc. I think they learned a whole quiver of lessons that day.

And yes it was a yappy little dog.

I was driving to visit a friend who lives a few hours away. I stopped at a winery, about an hour from his house, to buy a bottle of his favorite wine……. Luckily the driver side rear vent window of my truck was open, and the winery folks were kind enough to give me two wire coat hangers, so that I could put them together and snag my key ring from the front seat. I was manager of my college’s motor pool one year. That very year for Thanksgiving I borrowed one of our Dodge vans to borrow some long tables from the dining hall. We were very slick and no one saw us. Then I locked the keys in the still running van, which was parked in the middle of the soccer field (we were also borrowing chairs from the auditorium next to the soccer field). Anyway, I had to call my boss like a jerk and tell him everything. He sent Randy, one of the maintenance guys, to bail my butt out. Felt terrible. Funny thing though. Nothing happened. I gave Randy a fifth of Jim Beam from the giant box of liquor in the back when he arrived and then smoked a cigarette with him on the back of the van while he talked about football. My boss was so hammered when I called that he couldn’t drive himself and didn’t seem to remember anything happening. And I returned everything to its rightful place the next morning with no issues. Still turn a bit red remembering it, though. I felt so bad about bothering everyone on Thanksgiving. :/

Yes, long and old story. Sounds fun now, was not fun back then:

In my old BMW318i sedan, some 30 years ago, in pouring rain, with my ex and 6 months old first daughter on the Freeway in Switzerland, on the way to a party.

Baby poops and complains, I stop on the curb, run out back to the trunk to grab some pampers ... All a little to fast, and for some reason I lock my car key in the trunk. Rain continues to pour, while both ex and baby are yelling and I am removing the back seat; only to discover that the BMW had a full steel firewall under the seat. Then we waited two hours on the freeway until a mechanic showed up and drilled the trunk open. Biggest problem for my ex was that we missed the party.

So there,

Roland.

One my BMW, there is a magic place on the tank with a coil underneath, where you can unlock the bike with the fob even if the fob battery is done. :)

Once way back in high school, but it was a station wagon, and I was able to pop the rear hatch with a screwdriver. More recently I was on a business trip down your way (Clayton) and someone else locked the keys in the rental car trunk. Had to wait for AAA on that one.

Locked myself out of my apartment building once way back. Had just moved in (literally the day of), and the building had an outer door that was always unlocked, and an inner door that was always locked. Think I needed to get something out of my car, and left my apartment door unlocked, but forgot about the other door, and as soon as I heard it close behind me I was like shit! Luckily someone else came home soon after so I wasn't locked out for long.

I was at the gun club one morning shooting and locked the keys in the truck somehow, sitting pretty in the center console cup holder. I was able to get the rear sliding window to unlatch using a grocery store bonus card I had in my wallet and I happened to be shooting my muzzleloader so the ramrod came in handy to snag the key ring.

When I was younger I was dumb.... learned how to use the antenna off of a car to get into it lol

Now at my work keys get locked in cars all the time , I have a wedge and a bendable bar to hit the power unlock button

I keep a “jimmy” in my work truck to help others but always have to find a wire hanger to help myself. When I worked at a car dealership I was the guy that unlocked the cars when customers would lock them in the car… while running… after test drives. It’s more difficult on some of the newer cars.
