Locking versus not [a Stupid Newbie Question (tm)]

A lock makes no difference, until you cut yourself with a slipjoint.
Then you'll understand the difference better. (I know, you will never cut yourself with a slipjoint. I never did either, until the first time.)

When I was very young a non-locking Scout knife closed while I was carving a pumpkin. It cut the knuckle open, requiring stitches and a long recovery. It still makes a slight clicking sound when I flex that finger.

I see it like this:
Why not have a lock on a knife? It does'nt add much extra weight and it does'nt significantly increase the price, so why not?

Locking knives have been around for a long time, so somebody must have decided it was a good idea.

Somefolks will say that if you use a knife properly then you don't need a lock.
To that I say: Would you buy an assault rifle with no safety? If you use it properly you don't need one, right?

Good luck,
Allen.
