Hi,

Should I use Loctite on my CRK?
I received my first Sebenza 31 a week ago. I fidgetted with it and a screw fell off on the first day. I found it and put it back in place WITHOUT loctite.
I have been playing with the knife for several days now and it hasn't come out again which makes me believe that locktite is not necessary if you screw hard enough.
Am I wrong? What are your thought on that?

p.s. I am sure that the subject has been discussed before but I cannot find any thread. I just don't understand the structure of this site.

it depends on how the screws are tighten
If you tighten everything correctly in my experience I never have to use loctite on a sebenza
I use loctite on the pivot of my inkosi and Umnumzaan to make sure my adjustment don’t change over time but that is more a comfort than a necessity

At the end you can really do how you like / feel it

Using loctite won’t damage your knife so it is really up to you

I just took apart one of my 31's yesterday for a cleaning/regrease; I used the supplied PURPLE Loctite on both the pivot and stop pin. I have had them loosen before, so I typically use a small amount on both pins.

I don't use anything other than the purple however and a little goes a long way, I don't view it as a negative at all.

Check the one that backed out and see if it’s getting loose, if not then don’t worry about using the loctite. I don’t use the supplied loctite, but I do check all the screws from time to time.

The fact that CRK includes Locktite in the box should tell you something and using it isn't a big deal. The 31 stop pin is different than what CRK used with 21s. It's a lot harder which causes the pivot to loosen.

The only Sebenza (and only 31) that I use locktite with is the KnifeArt Exclusive Carbon Fiber Large Sebenza 31. If I tighten the pivot all the way down, the blade movement is too tight for my liking. That might change over time though.

I find Sebenza 31’s to be finickier than 21’s, and in order to get my 31 running well, I have to use purple loctite on the frame screws and leave them a little less snug than I would normally.

I believe if your sebenza came with loktite it’s meant to be used. The older knives shipped w/o loktite, don’t need it.

I haven't used loctite so far and I have been fine. I check the screw once in a while but they are always nice and tight.

Not true. CRK started including Locktite because of complaints of 31 pivots loosening.
Well if the pivot loosens w/o loktite and people complain then it’s needed.

Before the current pivot, Chris indicated loktite was not needed for the pivot of a Sebrnza. That’s why you didn’t get any.

I have a 25. Mine didn't come with Loctite....I'm actually about to disassemble and clean it as the pivot has gotten super gunked up. Anyone else ever have that problem? I don't have my old Loctite anymore, but will definitely buy some if things get loose.

Happy to hear that! I won't either. I'll just crank the screws in as much as I can.

Yes, thats how a sebenza works. Should not be needing loctite. On a inkosi however it's a must.

Both my 31 and 21s never needed it.

Of the eight large 31's I have there is one that consistently backs out the pivot screw. I suspect this is due to a tolerance stack-up on the blade, bushing and washers being just tight enough to translate some rotation to the screw set. I'm very particular with assembly when using the fluorinated grease and tightening all screws and this has been the only one to loosen without Loctite. All of them are glass blasted so that is likely not a contributing factor. Will eventually put some purple on it.
