It seems astounding to me that a structure 800 years old simply cannot be duplicated today. Think of the timbers in that structure. They will have to be milled. The men to hew them do not exist any more.

How many other trades simply don't exist anymore? Imagine trying to replace quarry tile from a quarry that ran dry 500 years ago. No othe

This architect in the film, Philippe Villeneuve, is one of the advocates for a restoration, that is to say using the same methods and materials as much as possible in rebuilding. Macron and his crony Gen Jean-Louis Georgelin aka the Butcher of Paris, ego-maniacs, see the disaster as their opportunity to insert themselves into history by making an updated version of Notre Dame as shown in the film despite strict laws mandating traditional methods for monuments.

The French sure have some of the most good-looking tools ever...That broadaxe shown in the part about hewing beams for that other castle is incredibly elegant...It's got to be the earliest type of all broadaxes...(it sure is the sexiest!:)

Yes, reserved for those who prefer working in the middle-ages stile, well, just like Gustave Rémon does, he says because the handle mounting is simple and can even be fitted with a stick in a bind. You see them just as often with double as with single bevel.
