Does anyone have any opinions on what the best provider of etching stencils is? TusTech vs. Ernie G.? I've already contacted them. Any others?

Also, I should mention that I need whoever I choose to help with logo design, as well.

Thanks.

Tuss Tech

About $35 initial order and then $13 to reorder.

Thanks all. I'll check out electromark. TUstech charges to do the design work and I don't mind paying but they charge by the hour and I don't want a nasty surprise. I also remember reading a thread where someone had gotten a bad batch from them. Ernie apparently does not charge for design but the 1st thing he came up with did not impress. I think his stencils are a good bit more expensive, also.

I had problems with Ernie and Tus never called me back or responded to my emails.

Patricia at IMG was nothing but a pleasure to work.

WaltE99, I have had good luck with TUS in Mass. and the green stencils from Marking Methods in Brea, Ca. I use #94 etching solution from IMG in New York which really helped my etches but I have not used their stencils. Others have recommended IMG in this forum though. Most suppliers keep your logo on file so you only need to set up once per logo. I should mention that a lot of forum members are very happy with Ernie Grospitch stencils also. I kind of suspect that most of the stencils makers do a good job and the quality of your etches really depends on your trial and error technique and your etching machine. I do believe though that the etchant makes a difference and I only use #94. Hope this helps. Larry

You are correct. Patricia is a pure professional and just a joy to do business with. She follows up on what she says and emails designs for approval, takes phone calls, offers advice, etc. She really knows what she's doing.
And their stencils are very high quality.
I can think of nothing anyone could do to make me take my business somewhere else.

I've also been extremely satisfied with Patricia and IMG. Top quality product and friendly, professional service. I have stencils from them that I've used over and over again and they're still as sharp and true as the day I got them.

What is IMG charging for initial stencils?

I've ordered from Ernie a number of times, and have always been happy with response time, turn around, and quality. I tried TUS after seeing recommendations from Brian Fellhoelter and others, and the number of etches per stencil PLUS the reprint cost is what pulled we away from Ernie to try them, however, I was not exactly happy with the "sharpness" of a makers mark I paid for them to print. The edges were a bit pixelated, and it wasn't NEARLY as sharp as what I got from Ernie, despite sending them the same file, which I know was much more defined than what I received. I complained and had them print another sheet, which was better, but they charged me the design fee again, which didn't impress me at all, seeing as how, as far as I could tell, was on them, not me. The stencils that were printed well work great however.

All that being said, I ordered some stencil material and developer from IMG a couple of weeks ago, and am looking forward to trying it out (received it today actually). Patricia seems very nice and was very helpful over the phone with some advice, insisting that I call her if I had ANY problems, and she would be more than happy to help me through them.

Tus stencils seem to last much longer than Ernies stencils for me.

I noticed the same, and if I'm not mistaken, they may be cheaper, even including the initial design charge (assuming their prices are the same as last time I ordered, which has been a good while). Last time I looked Ernie up, I think he had actually increased his prices, so I've opted to look at some more cost effective options, namely, making my own.

The only bad thing I can say about Patricia and Bruno at IMG is that they are Rangers fans. Otherwise, best stencils and electrolyte I have used.

I'm not sure. I called this afternoon and Patricia was on another line. I was supposed to call back but then I got punched in the nose (by email!!) by a woman. While I was cooling off, her boss called to diffuse the situation. By the time this was resolved, I totally forgot to call IMG back. I couldn't find pricing on their website but need to do a more thorough search.

Adam it looks like I paid 40$ for art work and one sheet of stencils. I believe that got me 3 .50" and 3 .625" stencils. Also I think I paid another 20$ for her knifemakers electrolyte kit which is 3 or 4 different types of electrolyte and one neutralizer.

For the record I never used stencils from Ernie. My issue was with him changing my design in ways I asked him not to.

Another point about IMG, Patricia will convert your image to a vector image which can be scaled to any size without pixelization.

Edit - I'm not sure how much it affected the price for the design but I created my logo in photoshop and converted it to a vector image before sending it to her. I asked her clean up or thicken anything she thought would't etch well.
