I've been thinking about making a logo for myself, either a stamp or a stencil for electro etching. I asked a buddy of mine who is a artist to mess around with my initials "AJM" to see what he could come up with and I'd like to get your opinions.
This is the one I think I like the best... but I do like some of the others as well.

I'm leaning towards #1 because I like it, and because I think the bold lines would be the easiest to make if I decided to make it a punch rather than a stencil. I also feel that it would etch better than some of the more delicate ones.

Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Thanks for the input!

Valknut, I see your point, but there are lots of makers, especially among the blacksmith side of the house that just have a touch mark as their signature.

I am planning on having a set of stencils made up with "A.McPherson" as well.

Hey man it's what you want ya know? I think my train if thought was from something I heard from ed caffery about makers marks. Basically if in 40 years someone stumbles on your knife make sure it's easily traced back to you. Or something like that lol I didn't mean any disrespect or anything

I like #1 and #5. At a glance #3 looks like it says gim, so does #4.

Is there a way to turn the j in #1 into a knife? A scimitar maybe?

Hello, when I put my logo together , the late Bob Loveless told me when I asked, Name & Town have to be on there so people can find you.. things have changed some with the inter webs. You might put a website on now instead...,Let’s see the one with your initial & last name. You want only one mark!..

Take it or leave it, but the best advice for a small mark on a blade is that it needs to be crisp and clear.

Bold letters A.J.McPherson over the word Texas is far better than any stylized lettering and images. Save the fancy stuff for letterheads, business cards, and knife certificates.

Thanks for the advise everyone! It gives me a lot to ponder!

Alen, when I first started out the mark I used was TRL. But people asked, who is TRL? If someone liked a knife marked TRL, they didn't know who to look up to get another one.

To be a successful knifemaker you need to advertise. Having your name on your knife is a good way to advertise.

My personal opinion is, I agree with Stacy. A.J. McPherson over Texas. That's what I would use.

honestly I don't like any of them...
as said earlier I don't think they look good as a logo on a knife.

if you keep an eye on the knife identification forum, you will often see "who made this knife?" posts, and the picture shows a monogram or symbol of a bear or lightning bolt. if you are popular, you can use just your last name. a simple google comparison will tell who made it. like fisk for example. it makes sense for the rest of us to have more info so we can be found. its also free advertisement. i am more concerned that the guy who looks at the knife in 20 years knows who it was. i use first initial, last name, town and state abbreviation.
