Logo placement question

So, I am finally getting a logo to etch on my blades...got the stencil worked out and en route, and before I even get it I am being asked by a customer to put a custom message on the knife I am making for his son.

So...do I move my logo to the 'back' of the knife and put his message on the traditional place (left side, facing the user when in the right hand) or keep my logo where it belongs and put his message on the back? Or do I forgo my logo altogether? Putting both on the same side would be too much I think...

Whatcha think guys???

I'd say always put your logo in the same spot. It's just how I think it works.

If you honestly can't fit the message on the front, check it with the customer and put it on the back.

Most people are right handed. Your mark goes on the "show side" - tip left edge down - so the user sees your mark when he draws the blade and looks at it. The supplementary inscription goes on the "off side" so others see the inscription that the customer has ordered, as the knife is drawn.

You could either keep this configuration as 'convention' or you could alter it for left handed users. I would tend toward honoring the time tested convention as correct.

My 2 cents

I do a lot of presentation blades. On request I engrave them with the new owners name;names and dates;boat names;personal messages;etc. I mark this message/info on the show side (omote) and move my makers mark to the back side (ura). If the blade is just receiving the makers mark only, I mark the show side as noted in the above posts

If it was a special presentation knife, I'd probably do like Stacy and place the special inscription/presentation on the obverse/display/mark side of the blade and my logo on the reverse side.

For the few knives I've done with special etches, it has just been the customer's initials. For those, I keep my mark on the display side and place the initials on the reverse side.
