What kind of ways can one use to do logos for a knife. I have one in mind and I think I want to etch it some way or another. My logo will basically be this.... MARR or JOHN
MARR width wise on the blade. or I will use my signature.

Guys have stamps, etching machines, and engravers. I have access to a laser engraver/marker at work so I think that is good enough for now.

I use a stamp from Evers with my logo (see below). It takes a little to get good at it, but I like the stamping better than etch. Etching can leave a little bit of "fuzziness" around the edges sometimes. My stamp is very crisp and clear.

How much is it to get a stamp made? What can I use for the mean time? I am working on my first knife and want to mark it.

I ordered from http://www.henryaevers.com/ and it was about $180 but for what you are looking for there are cheaper solutions. I know I've heard of a number of different places to get tooling stamps but can't remember off the top of my head. Just search around the net and you can probably get something for under a hundred (maybe even less). I ordered from Evers because I know the quality of their work and wanted a complex design. For something cheap, you can cut your name out of some stick on stencil material and soak in Ferric Chloride to etch it into the steel. Just make sure and mask off everything you don't want etched. I've also heard of guys using electrical tape and cutting their initials out with an X-acto knife as a stencil. Ferric chloride used to be able to be found in Radio Shack's but a lot have pulled it off the shelves. Look for PC board etchant on the net if you can't find it at Radio Shack.
