have any of you been to the emerson forum to see his fit and finish topic......typical Ernie style his excuses for shortcomings are the fact that soldiers use his knives....I've met very few people that feel the beretta is a great pistol because military endorse it....why won't he just fix the issues and stop the commentary

In b4 thee move!

I don't care what he says about his knives being tools. Poor fit and finish for such expensive knives is unacceptable, and there is no reason to contradict it. Why should anyone spend $200.00 on an Emerson with a simple liner lock and the risk of it having quality control issues? For less than $200.00 there are so many other options out there that offer better steels and much stronger locking systems.

How about we take this to Ernest's forum where you can discuss it with him?

LOL right back atcha.

Found nothing funny in what Ernie wrote. Found no "excuses" for what some feel are shortcomings. I have never been in a gunbattle where a knife was required so I cannot speak as to why soldiers like em, but they do!!!

Two things Ernie Emerson is not and that is a man who needs excuses, or makes excuses. He has always been straight forward.

As for the Beretta.......................they are ok as long as they are not serrated:D

I believe he's just stating that his focus is on function and not looks.I guess if you want something pretty he's not you're guy.Whine& Cheese may be a better place to post you're thread.

f/f is not only about looks; it is tied to function as well. sloppy f/f degrades the structural integrity of the knife. To state "my knife is all about function and not looks" shows everyone how Mr. Emerson has a hard time understanding how to build quality products.

If you have an issue with one of his knives have you sent it back to have the problem fixed?

There is an old saying, "You can't argue with success."
But this is Bladeforums, we argue about everything. :p

This is well said and no ones forcing you to buy an Emerson. It's a free world buy what you want but if you really want fit and finish buy a Custom Emerson now they are sweet.

I think the standard Horseman is a well thought out knife.LOL,the only time fit & finish would really worry me would be if I was shopping for a girlfriend.

True, but the OP isn't talking about Ernie's sucsess. What bugs some the most is his "I'm the shit" attitude in his post, and the F@F issue. There are many people that are the shit and then some, but they rarely speak of it.

Many just get put off by some one who feels the need to toot his own horn quite so much. I feel some of the talk did bother him, and maybe rightfully so, and thats just the way he reacts in these case's. At least he is beeing himself, instead of kissing ass for buisness sake, and I do respect that.

With that said, I'm sure Ernie isn't meaning to come across as he does online. I have talked with him at Blade before, and he is as nice a guy as you will ever talk to.

The OP is most assuredly talking about his success. CRK, Strider, Emerson, all get the same routine. I have seen complaints I know were lying about these companies. Chris Reeve himself occasionally has had enough, and posted pictures proving the complaint was a lie.

No, not everyone griping about Emerson's posts is a liar or jealous or a troll. Many people do take his rhetoric as excessive or even insulting. That's OK, tell him so, he can handle it. We do have people here who aren't familiar with the knives in real life, though, who are calling him out on fit and finish. That's not right.

I see what you're saying. The fit and finish issue does get out of hand at times for many companies...and its just his time I guess:p
I find his fit and finish to be on par with others in his range. Though I haven't handled one in a couple of years.

I have owned 3 Emersons several years back and the fit and finish was fine on all three. One was a little stiff to open, but no big deal. I buy from a few differant manufactors and have had fit and finsh issues will all of them that I've bought from.
The only knives that I have had 5 or more of that didn't have any fit and finish problems was CRK, but thats alot of what your paying for. And even CRK has the occasional problem with a knife, though very few.

IMO the only way you can get almost guaranteed consistent fit and finish in knives is to go custom with a good maker. I've held a few handmade Emerson's and they where made as well as a knife could be.

Geez guys just lay off him. You guys should be glad he doesn't really tell us about all the secret government missions and junk.

Because then he'd have to kill us ;)

I dont get why people get all bent out of shape about the finish of emerson knives. Very simply, knives are tools. They are meant to cut stuff. Your comparison of Ernie's blades being used by military, esp. special ops types folks, to the fact that the Military ISSUES the M9 is invalid. There are very strict rules about carrying only issued weapons. But a soldier goes out of his own pocket to purchase his knife. It is a known fact within the special ops community, Ernie's knives are popular. considering this, I have to say that these guys see some value in the knives. However if you do not like his knives....... DONT (( XXXX )) BUY THEM. If other people like them.... THATS OK TOO.

If you want knives where fit, finish, customer requests and steel is of no importance, BUT the really tough seems to use it, buy a Emerson.

This is how I understand it after reading the fit and finish threads.
