does cocobolo smell like horse sh!t when you grind it:barf:
That is all.:D

It still smells better than Micarta:D Amboyna is the best smelling wood IMO. It smells like you are baking something. Brazilian rosewood smells nice too.

Bout the only thing worse than cocobolo is Desert Ironwood. I keep checking my shoes when i work DI. cocobolo is one that you need to be careful with. It can set up sensitivities and it does not have to happen the first or even the 100th time you use it. I have heard from those who have used it for years and then suddenly they have a major problem breathing. A good respirator would be in order.

Are these the stabilized woods or just by themselves?? Thanks!!:D

If Cocobolo is stabilized, you must have bought it off eBay. I'm not aware of any reputable stabilizer that will claim to properly process cocobolo.

My vote for the best smelling wood is unstabilized Thuya Burl. mmmmmm.... if a woman dabbed a little of that behind ears, I's be putty! ;)

Saeple could turn my head pretty quick too.

I gave a friend a hug once after grinding a handle and found this out the hard way - she had an allergic reaction (I'm not a doctor, but that's what I'd call it). Her skin turned red and puffed way out all along the side of her face. I wear a respirator, and recently bought a shop apron to keep my clothes cleaner. The last thing I want is to walk in the house and get that crap on my kids or wife.

I kind of like it.

I'm with you Allen.... now buffalo horn on the other hand.... rotten eggs and burnt hair.....

That being said, the first time I worked with cocobolo, it gave me bronchitis like symptoms for about 3 weeks... of course back then I was just using cheap disposable paper respirators... doesn't really bother me now. Needless to say, these days I look up a new woods toxicity BEFORE I work with it.

I haven't used any cocobolo yet. The worst smelling wood in my stash right now is some honey locust. I cut it out of a pasture along a fence line that saw a lot of hoof traffic. It smells like a feed lot when I sand it. Urine, rotted grass and wet cattle.

Kingwood smells nice, looks pretty too. I just need to seal it up better. I've had a lot of shrinkage with it this winter.
