Lonestar EDC Vs. EDCII

I recently got a Lonestar EDC of off the Flea Market. I wanted to compare it to my EDCII that I carry to work every day. I will do a comparison to the Bushboot later for Duder, but I fear the point is moot as this is likely the knife that he was considering when he requested a comparison in another thread. What everyone has been saying about it is correct, it is basically an EDCII handle shape with a clip point.

But this little knife feels very different in the hand than my EDCII. The EDCII is 5/32" with a TT while the Lonestar is 1/8" SFT.

But as the above pictures show, the handle of the Lonestar is noticeably thicker that that of the EDCII.

The width of the handle at the bullseye of the EDCII is 0.783"

Whereas the width of the Lonestar at a similar place is 0.881". These are not exact as I only have so many hands. But, overall I am liking this little knife a great deal.

The finish on the handles of the Lonestar are very grippy. I would not hesitate to use this knife in the mud, blood and beer. I love the way the thicker handles feel as well. I am not sure if this is something that Andy is going to do for all of the Lonestars, but I am really digging it on this Lonestar.

Nice comparison!

I love my EDCII and have been thinking about grabbing one of theses Lone Stars. If Andy made one with a swedge, I don't think I could resist!

I agree, but I don't think the Lonestar will have any problem perpetrating anything without the swedge.

I just did a sheath for an edc2. Rediculously comfortable handle on that one. Just a great package all the way around.

Now I just need to get a Lonestar in hand to see which I'd rather have. It's a toss up between the edc2, SP or maybe the Lonestar... but then there's the Shank too. Perfect small slicer/dicer.

Thanks for muddling my brain even further! :)

I'm not much of a EDC or EDC2 fan, too people friendly I guess. That Lonestar is something else though. I love stabby blades; they just look sexier IMO. Is that G10 on the EDC 2? What's the OAL on the Lonestar?

Looking forward to the bushboot and Lonestar comparison.

I like the Boy Named Sue reference. I love Johnny Cash and Shell Silverstein for that matter.

The OAL is about 7.5" with a 3" blade for both knives. The handle material for both knives is black micarta. The only difference is the way that it is finished. The EDCII is not so smooth that I ever felt uncomfortable or unsafe really bearing down on the knife, but the Lonestar is exceedingly grippy. Perhaps not as pretty or shiny, but very very applicable as a handle material and finish. The beauty of it is the pure utilitarian look and feel. I lived in South TX for about three years in the 80s, right in the middle of the brush country. The predominant industries were defunct oil fields (at the time) and cow/calf operations. There is something about this knife that is reminiscent of that country, that culture and that history.

Is that a sand-blasted handle on the Lonestar? Looks very grippy.

It is very grippy. I am not sure if it is blasted, or if it is just rough sanded. Either way, it is amazing how different the same material can look and feel. This knife sold on a Friday not that long ago. I'll see if the description indicates what is what.

Great review Walt! It is so nice to see pics of the knives in hand. It is cool how different every fiddleback is even if they are the exact same model and thickness.

I have always thought the edc would probably be the best small fiddleback for me but I have not tried one yet. I am not drawn to the clip point, but I like the picture of it with your finger on the back of the blade. Nice work!

Here is the comparison that Josiah requested. The Bushboot has a little longer blade, about 3 3/8" where the Lone Star is right at 3" The Bushboot OAL might be a tad longer than the Lone Star, but it is probably within the variance of a hand made knife. I would call them the same.

Here is the description trestle. No mention of how it was achieved.

I got this EDC from Shank (KephaC) off the flea market. I think that he represented it as a tuxedo/micarta. But it could be G10. It is a little shinier than some of my black micarta, but I have seen micarta polished even ore than this. I guess I don't know for sure.

Edit: After close inspection, I think it is G10. I will dig out Shanks post to see what he called it.

I have never been a fan of the Lonestar if the truth be told but after this review I would consider picking one up and giving it a go. That is if I can shark one before the rest of my brethren do.

Thankyou.
Mick

I found the sale thread. Yes, in fact it is G10, not micarta. My bad, good eye Duder.
