LoneWolf City Knife with Snakewood scales

Thanks guys and U.C.O.K, no prob, didn't state it was a sheath I made but
inferred that it was, one of the side things I do to help pay for things like knives.

I'm not familiar with the steel of this little beauty. Any info on this LV-03 steel? Cheers!

Not sure Frids, supposedly it's spec'd by Bob Loveless, fairly hard as shown when I
sharpened it up on arrival, someone will drop in and maybe share the details of
content?

I contacted Lone Wolf when the knife first came out around 2004 and got this information on the steel.

The City Knife blade has a Rc hardness of 59-61.

You have probably noticed that some of the steels used in our products are not listed on common blade steel charts. These new blade steels have been developed for our products by working closely with several major steel producers to develop proprietary- steels based on modifying the chemistry of their better blade steels. The LV-04 steel used on the Loveless fixed-blade knives was developed because there was not an existing steel that had the properties desired for this product. Working with Bob Loveless we established how we wanted the steel to perform and then challenged a major steel producer to meet these requirements. The result was what we decided to call LV-04. The steel has high carbon content with Molybdenum & Vanadium for flexibility and added edge retention. You can also forge this steel. This was the key to producing the Loveless fixed-blade knives in a closed-die forging tool. This was our goal and we had to develop a special steel to reach it. This was a challenge to say the least but the resulting product forged from this steel has outstanding cutting properties and excellent corrosion resistance. Because R. W. (Bob) Loveless pushed us hard to find or develop steel with these properties we gave it the LV prefix in honor of Mr. Loveless. The LV-02 and LV-3 steels will be used in his folding knives and have specific key properties of their own for each application. We list the chemistry of these steels below but keep in mind that chemistry is only one part of the blade performance equation. As with many things how you use what you have is more important than what you have. The strict controls we follow on the heat treatment, cryogenic deep-quench and tempering sequence all add up to some of the best performing steels ever used in knife blades. Like a good recipe with premium ingredients the key is in the blending, handling and technique used to bake and cool the dish that will make it the best it can be.

We are working hard to develop materials and techniques never before used to provide exceptional performance and value in our products.

From the accompanying steel chart: LV-03 has Carbon 0.95% Chromium 13.5% Mn 0.65% and none of V, Ni, or Mo.

The city knife is unique in its steel and, for a production knife, unique with its intergral bolsters.

Thanks brownshoe, good info there, I emailed them regarding the slip
sheath and they are rounding up one for me, for those days I can't
wear the sheath around.

Also they said the City Knife was discontinued in 2006 and they were
talking with Mr Loveless to craft a new folder, can't wait to see what
that will be like. I imagine that it will be a very practical folder though.

Gary, looks like we were of the same mind, as I grabbed the second to last one New Graham had. I actually called Mary Beth and had her open the box on an order I had already placed to add the City Knife. Glad I did, as these are getting harder to find. I searched quite a while for the micarta version and ended up "settling" for the snakewood. However, upon receipt I found that the wood had great contrast and was quite a looker. I agree with you on the City Knife's cutting ability, the first weekend I had it I cut up about 8 cardboard boxes and it still had a nice edge. No problems with the handle-to-blade ration, as the larger handle provides more control.

If my memory is correct, LoneWolf worked with Sandavick (?) on the L series of steel. There was an article in one of the knife rags.

Rob T, yep must be so, it's been working well this past few days, very comfortable
knife and the sheath works nice, good retention.

Glad you are liking the City Knife Gary. I somehow knew you would.
Awesome work on the sheath as well. I may have to commision you for one for my City Knife here soon.

Thanks John and sure, but being wood and yours is the green micarta not sure
I can trust using mine as a template, hanging onto this one, had to let that
bulldog go, bought a new lens, took the wind out of my sails so to speak :(

hehe, well, it'll have to be done sooner or later, but I know you have a method of
carrying it already so, no worries if you decide not to have one made, of course!

picked up some thinner leather , usually all I have is 8/9 & 9/10. Will see what I can knockout for pocket carry. But it will make it your way eventually :)

John, you'll do fine! just follow the procedure I listed and it'll go great, no worries!

Computers are finicky creatures alright, a 0 in the wrong spot and it all goes bonkers!
weird eh?
This knife has been my main carry now since getting her, love the blade length and shape
while the bolster area is a bit strange with it's viewable pivot screw, you can at least
adjust if needs be, this one hasn't needed anything done to it in that manner, otherthan
the look, the folder walks and talks great, with a nice solid half stop as well.

I wonder what Lonewolf will cook up next year, as I've said, they no longer make this model but it can be found from various sellers.
