Long and lean with a touch of mean

Steve,

I must say the previous post was exactly what I was looking for, that knife has some serious attitude! The subsequent post shows you have the same good taste in knives as I do :D

Ed, beautiful knife in SS and that wonderful orange bone. Every time you post that beaut I am one step closer to pulling the trigger....

Glad I could contribute something interesting!

I forgot to add that the Navaja has carraca mechanism.... basically a toothed tang that makes a ripping sound when you open the knife. I've read that people used to fear that sound back when these were common, in Spain that is. Probably a similar reaction racking a pump shotgun gets.

These knives also come larger than this..... this one is a medium size.

I just measured it and it comes in about 5 1/8". Here it is next to a smaller one with a 3 1/2" blade.

A close up of the ratcheting (carraca) tang.

I'm not sure how good Exposito is. If I bought another, I'd probably go with Joker.

That is pretty cool. It basically can lock open in multiple positions?

It doesn't really lock open until it's all the way open. It won't close after it passes the first tooth, but they are angled in a way that it will keep opening. It's a pretty strong lock if you ask me.

I bought the smaller one to carry, but even it is a large knife. It's very thick. Also, these aren't what I would consider high quality. They hold a decent edge, but the construction does leave something to be desired. Strong enough to use I'm sure, but they lack refinement. I haven't handled any others personally, so I don't know if it's just the way these knives are manufactured or if it's just these in particular. They definitely look like they could have been made a few hundred years ago.

These were middle of the road, price wise, so if you ponied up the cash, you could probably get something better. However, you could just end up getting fancier handle materials and file work with the same construction. That seems to be how a lot of European knives are made and priced.

Hope this one qualifies

Fantastic knife Jack! Jamie, you have a lot of steel in your pockets when you're carrying those. Here's a Napanoch:

Sweet Napanoch. How long is she? Would you call it a "banana trapper" aka "toad sticker"?
